In a breaking story we reported on Monday, convicted sexual predator and former U.S. Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar was repeatedly stabbed by a fellow inmate on Sunday. As my colleague Susie Moore wrote:
Larry Nassar, the former sports doctor for USA Gymnastics, convicted of sexually abusing gymnasts and sentenced to nearly 200 years in prison for his horrific deeds, has been stabbed multiple times at a federal prison in Florida. […]
Nassar appears to be in stable condition and likely will survive the stabbing….
Nassar was convicted and sentenced for his crimes in 2018 after more than 160 victims came forward with stories of abuse.
Now, more details on how the violent incident happened have emerged, according to a source of the Associated Press—and it appears connected to Nassar’s disgusting sexual crimes against young women.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A prisoner suspected of stabbing Larry Nassar at a federal penitentiary in Florida said the disgraced former sports doctor provoked the attack by making a lewd comment while they were watching a Wimbledon tennis match on TV, a person familiar with the matter told The Associated Press.
The inmate, identified as Shane McMillan, was previously convicted of assaulting a correctional officer at a federal penitentiary in Louisiana in 2006 and attempting to stab another inmate to death at the federal Supermax prison in Florence, Colorado in 2011, court records show.
McMillan attacked Nassar in his cell Sunday with a makeshift weapon, stabbing him multiple times in the neck, chest and back before four other inmates rushed in and pulled him off of Nassar, according to the person familiar with the matter.
The disgraced former physician is likely fortunate that the other inmates acted quickly—since there are no video cameras inside cells, according to the reporting:
Because Nassar was attacked in his cell, the incident was not captured on surveillance cameras which only point at common areas and corridors.
What was it that McMillan allegedly overheard Nassar say? An anonymous source revealed to the AP:
McMillan, 49, told prison workers that he attacked Nassar after the sexually abusive ex-U.S. gymnastics team doctor made a comment about wanting to see girls playing in the Wimbledon women’s match, the person said.
Though Nassar remains in stable condition Wednesday, his injuries are serious, including a collapsed lung, as previously reported by NBC News. The AP added that this is the second attack on Nassar since he’s begun serving his prison sentence.
RedState will provide more details on this evolving story as they become available.
