Larry Nassar, the former sports doctor for USA Gymnastics, convicted of sexually abusing gymnasts and sentenced to nearly 200 years in prison for his horrific deeds, has been stabbed multiple times at a federal prison in Florida.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Disgraced sports doctor Larry Nassar, who was convicted of sexually abusing female gymnasts, was stabbed multiple times during an altercation with another incarcerated person at a federal prison in Florida.

Two people familiar with the matter told The Associated Press the attack happened Sunday at United States Penitentiary Coleman in Florida. The people said he was in stable condition Monday.

One of the people said he had been stabbed in the back and in the chest.

Nassar was convicted and sentenced for his crimes in 2018 after more than 160 victims came forward with stories of abuse.

Dr. Larry Nassar was accused of molesting USA team members – including high profile gymnasts like Aly Raisman and Mckayla Maroney – throughout his entire tenure as the team doctor. After being convicted, Nassar was forced to sit through days of statements from over 160 of his victims.

The judge in the case sentenced Nassar to 175 years in prison.

Recently, as RedState reported, documents obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request directed to the Federal Bureau of Prisons regarding disgraced financier and child sexual abuser Jeffrey Epstein revealed Epstein had sent a letter to Nassar, though the letter apparently was returned and its contents have not been revealed.

The documents reveal that an investigator discovered Epstein’s letter to Nassar in the jail mailroom after Epstein’s death. Although the contents of the letter have not been released, the letter was returned in September 2019, weeks after Epstein’s demise. In an email, the investigator expressed uncertainty about opening the letter or giving it to anyone, stating that Epstein had apparently mailed it out and it had been returned to sender. The investigator emailed a prison official, writing:

It appeared he mailed it out and it was returned back to him. I am not sure if I should open it or should we hand it over to anyone?

The documents do not explicitly name Nassar as the letter’s intended recipient. However, in response, the MCC staff attorney described the original addressee of Epstein’s letter as:

… the former doctor for the U.S. Female Gymnastics Team that was convicted of molesting a bunch of girls…under the guise of ‘medical procedures/examinations.

As indicated, Nassar appears to be in stable condition and likely will survive the stabbing, though he’ll spend his remaining years behind bars.

During victim impact statements in 2018, several athletes testified that over the course of Nassar’s more than two decades of sexual abuse they had told adults what was happening, including coaches and athletic trainers, but that it went unreported.

More than 100 women, including Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles, collectively sought more than $1 billion from the federal government for the FBI’s failure to stop Nassar when agents became aware of allegations against him in 2015. He was arrested by Michigan State University police in 2016, more than a year later.

Michigan State, which was accused of missing chances over many years to stop Nassar, agreed to pay $500 million to more than 300 women and girls who were assaulted by him. USA Gymnastics and the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee made a $380 million settlement.
