The San Francisco Chronicle reported about a mass shooting that happened late Friday night in the city’s famed Mission District, which left nine people injured, one critically:
Nine people were shot Friday night near 24th Street and Treat Avenue in San Francisco’s Mission District, police said.
The victims were transported to local hospitals after the shooting, which occurred just after 9 p.m.
“We can confirm there are 9 shooting victims — all are expected to survive their injuries,” SFPD said on social media. “At this time, the incident appears to be targeted and isolated. There is no known threat to the public at this time.”
Some of the victims had life-threatening injuries, Deputy Chief Raj Vaswani said early Saturday morning. He said one victim was a 19-year-old woman and seven victims were men ages, 22, 23, 25, 27, 29, 34 and 35. The gender and age of the ninth victim was not known.
In the latest report, one of those injured remains in critical condition, according to the Associated Press.
Now, there’s an update from San Francisco police on the suspect in the case, whom they’ve now identified, the Chronicle reports:
San Francisco police searched Sunday for a person of interest in a mass shooting that injured nine people during a block party in the Mission District on Friday, authorities said.
Javier Campos, believed to be a Sureño gang member from San Francisco, is associated with the car involved in the shooting shortly after 9 p.m. Friday at 24th Street and Treat Avenue. The shooting, which police described as “targeted and isolated,” happened during a block party to celebrate the sixth anniversary of clothing store Dying Breed.
Police have tied Campos to a Mercedes that was captured on surveillance video speeding from the shooting site. The license plate number is 9BPT146.
San Francisco Mayor London Breed commented on the shooting in a Twitters post Saturday:
Last night's shooting in the Mission is still under investigation. I know there are a lot of questions and concerns in the community, and people want answers.
We are still working to understand exactly what happened and why and we will share information as soon as we can.

The Chronicle‘s report continues with this crucial, new detail, which hopefully will help authorities catch the suspect; they now believe Campos took part in other violence as part of the gang, including being under an active warrant for a homicide in Oakland:
Campos has ties with other Sureños throughout the Bay Area, police said. He has “numerous” outstanding firearm warrants from San Mateo County and Alameda County, as well as an outstanding arrest warrant for homicide in Oakland, police said.
