On Sunday, Trump made an announcement about CNN

Let it be known: The network is “pathetic.”

One thing you can say about the guy is he’s not especially vague.

During Sunday’s Coronavirus Task Force press briefing, a CNN reporter queried:

“On President Xi, you now talk about the missteps that China made early on in this crisis and how it put the United States behind the curve. So, when you repeatedly praised Xi in January and February, you said he will solve the problem, you said he was doing a great job. Were you duped by President Xi?”

Press Pause.

It seems to me that so many of the media’s questions for Trump, particularly during this pandemic, are aimed at creating “Gotcha” moments.

“Many” = Any more than the appropriate number, which would be none.

As for the circumstance with China, The Daily Wire offers two interesting points:

[T]he Trump administration banned travel from China and created a Coronavirus Task Force in January to deal with the outbreak, which came as the U.S. had cases in the single digits and had no reported deaths until late-February.

And:

[T]he Trump administration, which tried to get the CDC into China in early January, might have had a significantly harder time getting information out of China about the outbreak and critical supplies that were needed to fight the outbreak had the administration openly started criticizing the communist party.

Additionally, with regard to whether China was doing a great or terrible job at any given moment — so far as we knew — those, of course, are the operative words. Hindsight’s 2020 — just ask this guy:

But suggesting the President was “duped,” in my opinion, sounds as if the Collusion News Network’s asking, “Would you say you’re a dope?”

The reporter perpetually interrupted, and the Commander-in-Chief eventually dropped the hammer:

“You people are so pathetic at CNN.”

Clear.

The Prez also correctly noted that, after he’d banned travel, Nancy Pelosi was telling people to gather in Chinatown.

Oh, and just to drive it home, once again, CNN’s a turd:

“Listen, long before Pelosi, she was having parties in San Francisco, ‘Let’s go to Chinatown,’ and that was a long time after I closed up the country. That’s why your ratings are so bad because you’re pathetic. Your ratings are terrible, you got to get back to real news.”

Here’s a reminder of just how pitiful politics can be:

Back to the news briefing brawl, we’ve come to a place where it seems the Trump administration’s primary adversary is the press. Listen to news reels from the days of World War II — journalists were banded together with America, White House and all. These days, some in the media appear more ready to side with China than us, if it means going against that orange guy.

Such a penetration of partisanship and lack of national unity is…what’s the right word? Oh, yeah — a bit pathetic.

C’mon, folks!

Find the transcript below:

CNN: Mr. President, on President Xi, you now talk about the missteps that China made early on in this crisis and how it put the United States behind the curve.

TRUMP: Well, based on an investigation, we’re going to find out. Yeah, sure.

CNN: So, when you repeatedly praised Xi in January and February, you said he will solve the problem, you said he was doing a great job. Were you duped by President Xi?

TRUMP: No, no, no, no. I made a deal that’s phenomenal for the United States. You know who was duped? You. You and the Obama Administration were duped for years because China was ripping off this country like in the history of any country, nobody’s been ripped off like the United States by China and many other countries, and we stop it. And we’ve done a deal where they are paying us 250 — they are buying…they didn’t do anything for us. You know, we didn’t even have a deal. It was so bad … It is about a deal. Because the deal started a long time ago before anybody heard about this — the deal was finished a number of months ago…I was very happy. I hope they were happy. Billions of dollars came in in tariffs. Billions of dollars. They’re going to be purchasing billions. And then all of a sudden, long after that, I find out about this. And I told you —

CNN: [Interrupting]

TRUMP: Listen, CNN. Listen, CNN. I told you, I’m not happy about it. And this was after the deal. So we have this wonderful deal, and I was very — nobody‘s been tougher before the deal ever on China than Trump. Then I made a deal, was very happy with the deal. It’s a great deal, great for our farmers. The farmers have been paid a fortune already. Then what happened…now I find out after the deal, after the deal…I find out that I’m not happy.

CNN: [Interrupting]

TRUMP: You people are so pathetic at CNN. … I was very happy with the deal. Very happy with everything. Then we find out about the plague, right? The plague. And since we found out about that, I’m not happy. But I closed it up long before Pelosi —

CNN: [Interrupting]

TRUMP: Listen, long before Pelosi, listen, she was having parties in San Francisco. ‘Let’s all go to Chinatown’, and that was a long time after I closed up the country … That’s why your ratings are so bad because you’re pathetic. Your ratings are terrible, you gotta get back to real news.
