Are you ready for the new James Bond movie?

If you’re worried about it not being woke enough, cool your jets — it looks like the franchise is continuing its modernization.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Bond actresses Lashana Lynch and Ana de Armas opened up about the continuing “evolution” of everyone’s favorite spy.

During the conversation, Lashana praised the female character work of Phoebe Waller-Bridge, screenwriter for the new flick:

“I very literally squealed when I first heard her name. I thought, ‘Oh my gosh, British girl just like me. She’s going to know how to actually take care of women on-screen.’”

As referenced by Ana, in a brand new kind of turn, Lashana’s set to be 007 in No Time to Die (which also features Daniel Craig):

“It’s pretty obvious that there is an evolution in the fact that Lashana is one of the main characters in the film and wears the pants — literally. I wear the gown. She wears the pants.”

And the powers that be made sure the strong female character fit in line with Lashana’s desires:

“Everyone was really responsive to having her be what I wanted. You’re given a fresh perspective on a brand-new black woman in the Bond world.”

She didn’t want any part of a cookie-cutter girl:

“I didn’t want someone who was slick. I wanted someone who was rough around the edges and who has a past and a history and has issues with her weight and maybe questions what’s going on with her boyfriend.”

There was even talk of the monumental scene you’ve all been waiting for — think back to 50+ years of Bond movies…remember that moment you always wished you’d see, but never did…your time may finally have come, compliments of Lashana and scribe Phoebe:

“We had one conversation about her maybe being on her period in one scene, and maybe at the beginning of the scene — and I spoke to [director Cary Joji Fukunaga] about this — throwing her tampon in the thing.”

Lashana lamented criticism that came after the announcement of her character — one might find some in the Comments section here — because it came from sad people:

“It doesn’t dishearten me. It makes me feel quite sad for some people because their opinions, they’re not even from a mean place — they’re actually from a sad place. It’s not about me. People are reacting to an idea, which has nothing to do with my life.”

But whether people like it or not, somethin’ new’s a-comin’.

Far gone are the days when a Bond movie might be named after an Octopus.

Strap yourself in; Ana’s here to prep ya:

“[The women] have been sexualized before, a stereotype, a kind of woman who will always be in danger and waiting to be rescued by Bond.”

Producer Barbara Broccoli — who, along with her half-brother, Micahel G. Wilson, inherited the franchise from dad Cubby — is ready to make licensed-to-kill James #MeToo-safe:

“#MeToo has influenced our culture, which is a great thing, so of course it’s going to influence everything we do on Bond. The films are representative of the times they’re in.”

Are you ready for installment 25?
