Update - 2:15 p.m. Eastern:
Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh was just asked about Van Drew's comments in a press briefing and had this to say:
"There is not any truth to that. There is no Iranian ship off the coast of the United States, and there is no so-called 'mothership' launching drones toward the United States."
The mystery continues.
Original story:
The mysterious drone swarms over New Jersey are still appearing, and now reports are surfacing that a "mother ship" launched from Iran may be the source of these unmanned aircraft, some of which are reportedly the size of an SUV.
Congressman Jeff Van Drew (R-NJ), who serves on the House Judiciary Committee, spoke with Fox News' Harris Faulkner on the issue on Wednesday. Watch:

Rep. Van Drew said:
...from very high sources, very qualified sources, very responsible sources, I'm going to tell you the real deal. Iran launched a mother ship, probably about a month ago, that contains these drones. That mother ship is off... I'm going to tell you the deal. It's off the East Coast of the United States of America. They've launched drones, everything that we can see or hear, and these are from high sources, I don't say this lightly. Now we know there was a probability that this could have been our own government, but we know it's not our own government, because they would have let us know. It could have been some really glorified hobbyist or hobbyists, that were doing something unbelievable, they don't have the technology. But let's pretend that's possible. The third possibility is somebody, an adversarial country, doing this.
It's unclear what kind of "mother ship" is involved here. If there is indeed an Iranian mother ship, we should hope that the U.S. Air Force or Navy/Marine aviators have at least been sent to do a flyover to see precisely what kind of ship this is. Is it a small, minimally staffed craft designed as a tender for these drones? Is it an old freighter that has been adapted for the purpose? As Congressman Van Drew goes on, he appears to imply the former:
Know that Iran made a deal with China to purchase drones, mother ships and technology in order to go forward. The sources I have are good, they can't reveal who they are because they are speaking to me in confidentiality. These drones should be shot down. Whether it was some crazy hobbyist that we can't imagine, or whether it is Iran, and I think it very possibly could be, they should be shot down. We are not getting the full deal. And the military is on alert with this.
The Congressman is correct; these drones should be shot down, and the wreckage examined to see just where they may have originated. If a foreign country is operating these unmanned aircraft, which are apparently big enough to carry explosives or weapons, then this is a serious invasion of American airspace. If Iran is indeed involved, as Congressman Van Drew indicates is possible, then we are being overflown by the world's primary state sponsor of Islamic terrorism.
Meanwhile, in Washington, the same administration that let a Chinese spy balloon conduct an unimpeded transit of the entire continental United States is still seated in the White House.
As of this writing, there has been no statement on this topic from the Biden administration.
