Time for Trump to Back up His Governor Endorsement in Michigan by Raising Cash

Former President Donald Trump returns to southeast Michigan Saturday for one of those fabulous rallies that he has been doing since he left office in 2021. With just 38 days until the November election, it is about damn time he showed back up to help the candidates he endorsed earlier this year.

They need cash.

Trump endorsed Kristina Karamo for secretary of state and Matt DePerno for attorney general before the primary back in August, according to the Detroit Free Press. His endorsement no doubt helped both win their races.

As I wrote here at RedState before that primary, the Trump endorsement of the gubernatorial candidate Tudor Dixon days before the vote also helped put her over the top. BREAKING: Former Pres. Donald Trump Endorses Tudor Dixon for Michigan Governor. This was what Trump said in his endorsement statement about Dixon…

The Great State of Michigan is being destroyed by the Radical Left Democrats. Governor Gretchen Whitmer is the queen of lockdowns (except for her husband), school closures, and a suffering economy that’s just not hurting Michigan, but the entire Country. It’s time for a BIG change and a BIG comeback.

When I met Tudor Dixon, she was not well known, but I could tell she had something very special– it was a quality that few others have. She delivered a powerful speech on how she would lead Michigan fight for election Integrity turn around the economy and protect the future of Michigan for every child. Then, after recognizing her during my rally speech in April, her campaign took off like a rocket ship. The great people of Michigan got it– just like I did.

Tudor Dixon is a conservative Warrior who built an impressive career in the steel industry while working with her fabulous father, who is now watching her proudly from above. She raised a beautiful family and is ready to save Michigan. She’s pro-God pro-gun and pro-freedom and she won’t be stopped. She will stand up to the radical left as they try to indoctrinate our children and is ready to take on one of the worst governors in the nation. Gretchen Whitmer, is trying to destroy Michigan and our country. Tudor Dixon will make a great Governor and has my Complete and Total Endorsement. She will not let you down.

Since winning the nominations, the candidates for the top jobs in the state have been crisscrossing the “Mitten,” and working on getting the message out to the voters that the state can definitely do better than what we have had the past four years. Beating incumbents at any time is an uphill battle, but it becomes damn near impossible with money not being raised. As of 30 days ago, Governor Gretchen Whitmer was crushing Tudor Dixon in raising cash, according to a campaign finance filing reported by the Detroit News

Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer reported Thursday having $14 million available in her campaign fundraising account, 26 times the total disclosed by her Republican opponent Tudor Dixon, $523,930.

The new campaign finance filings from Whitmer and Dixon cover from July 18 through Aug. 22, 78 days before Election Day. The numbers raised concerns about the ability of Dixon to get her message out to voters this fall, political observers said. She will be the top Republican on the ticket in a key battleground state.

“Campaigns cost money, and she doesn’t have any,” said Adrian Hemond, CEO of the Lansing-based political consulting firm Grassroots Midwest. “I can’t put it any plainer than that.”

So, my question is, where in the hell is the Trump endorsement money?

Don’t get me wrong: I’m fully aware that Michigan is a blue state that trends purple on occasion. Donald Trump only won Michigan by 11.000 votes in the 2016 election and lost the state in 2020. When you have party backbiting because too many egos get involved in county-level politics, it can be messy. That does help muddle things up, across the board.

Trump, in his endorsement, said that Tudor would not let this state down, and from what I have seen, she is doing the most with what her campaign has. Yet, just a mere 38 days away from Election Day, I have not seen any support from the network the former President has–and can–utilize with a phone call.

Dixon is a pro-life candidate with a business background, who offers a stark contrast to Whitmer and the authoritarian style that she has demonstrated over the past four years. This state trended purple for elections in 1990, 1994, and 1998 for Governor, and can once again–if the top of the ticket can get some support from the 45th President and his network.

As I mentioned earlier about Michigan being a blue state that trends purple, that means it is critical to get as much dough as possible to paint this state a purple hue. I personally had hoped that Trump would have made it back here a bit earlier to help open the coffers and help his endorsed candidates. That of course makes good political sense, if he is going to run for President again in 2024.

Yet, if this is a “better late than never” push I can still accept that, if it makes the top races here competitive–which, according to the money race, it currently is not.

However, if this is just another campaign stop for the inevitable announcement of a 2024 run and not meant to help raise cash for the folks running in 2022 here in Michigan, I have a prediction to offer.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis will look mighty appealing to the rank-and-file Michigan GOP folks going forward.
