Trump's Air Force One 'Decoy' Fooled the Press. Good. That Was the Point.

Another day, another attempt by the TDS-riddled media to gin up a story about President Trump where one doesn't exist.

This time around, it's the decoy mission the president and his security detail were forced to take on July 8 when returning from a NATO summit in Turkey. The Washington Post reported Monday that Trump "flew in secret" on a different plane than the media and some White House staff after U.S. intelligence detected "a credible plot to fire a missile at the plane Mr. Trump was on as he left the Turkish capital of Ankara."

The assassination threat is believed to have originated with Iran.

Citing "a U.S. official familiar with the operation and another person with knowledge of the president’s travel" – the leakers hid under a shield of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak about it – the Post detailed what allegedly happened:

The administration has claimed that Trump departed Turkey on July 8 on the former Air Force One. Trump announced on social media that he would use the “former Air Force One” rather than the plane that flew him there, a newer Boeing 747-8 gifted to the United States by Qatar. The security of the Qatar-provided aircraft has been called into question, and Trump said last month after the trip that it would undergo additional upgrades.
In Ankara, Trump boarded the old Air Force One jumbo jet in view of television cameras. He was secretly shuttled minutes later to a smaller plane — an Air Force C-32A — via an airport catering truck typically used to load meals and other supplies preflight, according to the U.S. official and corroborating material reviewed by The Post. That made Air Force One a “decoy” with media and some White House staff aboard, the official said.

It's the stuff of James Bond, and it's kind of bad*ss.

"Journalists" are now studying footage of Trump in Turkey like it's the Zapruder film.

The truck can be seen pulling away from Air Force One after the president had boarded the plane, before driving to a second plane that ultimately carried the president out of Ankara, Turkey after the NATO summit.

Under the guise of being outraged that the American public didn't know the exact coordinates of Trump's location for a period of time – kind of the point, no? – what the media really is ticked about is the rope-a-dope subterfuge that was necessary to keep the president safe.

And there’s something rather obvious getting lost in all the hand-wringing being done: Traveling with the president comes with risk, a risk the media willingly takes to get up close and personal with the leader of the free world.

Nobody forces reporters onto Air Force One or into the presidential press pool. News organizations want those seats because traveling with the president gives their journalists extraordinary access, and those seats are scarce. The outlets occupying these seats pay for the privilege, and sometimes they're in the president's protective bubble, and sometimes they're not. They're guaranteed nothing, not even knowing where the president is at all times.

The irony is hard to miss: Reporters are furious they weren't told the secret, while the fact that the secret later leaked to them is a pretty good argument for keeping the circle of trust small in the first place.

And the decoys were likely never in much danger, as they were aboard a heavily modified military aircraft packed with classified security and communications systems designed to keep the president alive and functioning during a crisis. They were hardly sitting ducks.

So, yes, sh*t happens. Plans change. The press got fooled, and nobody gave them a heads-up. That’s called a successful security operation, not a scandal.

Everybody survived. Deal with it. (And maybe talk more about those leakers.)
