AOC's Egg-Freezing Gambit Is Bad for Women

AOC was all over the news this past weekend after she coyly refused to answer whether she was eyeing Chuck Schumer's Senate seat in 2028 or was thinking, perhaps, of making a run for the White House.

She'll almost definitely do one or the other, but is probably waiting to see how the socialists fare in the midterms before making her move. If the DSA pulls off enough wins this year, she can just cakewalk into Schumer's seat and a presidential nomination would look more doable, too. Bernie will be 87 in November of '28, so AOC is the obvious torch-bearer (unless the Dems decide to Obama-fy Abdul El-Sayed – if he wins the Michigan Senate seat – then all bets are off).

And we know she'll make a move in one of those directions because of the other reason she was in the news on Sunday: she's also thinking about motherhood and is taking steps to freeze her eggs to put it off for as long as possible.

RedState's Rusty Weiss had all the details on that:

Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14) has decided to freeze her eggs and, in a bizarre social media post, felt the need to share the process with followers as some sort of empowerment vlog.

And she did this despite knowing the world is scheduled to end in five years due to global warming. An odd decision at best. Why is she preparing for a future we're never going to see?

Calling herself a "badass," AOC, 36, beamed to the entire world a livestream of her self-injecting the megadose of hormones needed to make those eggs pop for retrieval. She pulled up her shirt, pulled the waistband of her pants down a bit, and administered the shot – all while telling her audience not to be "weird" about it.

As a side note, here are some side effects of taking large doses of these hormones: abdominal pain, cramps, bloating, depression, and – wait for it – mood swings. Luckily, Congress is on its summer recess, so we hopefully won't be subject to a mood-swinging AOC.

The congresswoman thinks she's being sly and really connecting with women here, but it's pretty obvious what's at play: AOC wants to be president, and what would be more Instagrammable than a woman president with a baby? Her social media cred would be off the charts, and that's what she stands for more than anything else.

What AOC is doing may benefit her personally and professionally, but it's incredibly damaging for women as a whole.

First, there are the hormones involved. Most women who have to go through the process believe the suffering that comes with a few weeks of shots is worth it if it ends with the blessing of a baby. But, the side effects are real and can result in serious complications like blood clots

There's no way of knowing if AOC is freezing her eggs because she actually has fertility issues, but if she doesn't, she could be sending countless women down a dangerous path.

Secondly, there's the issue of the frozen eggs themselves. Although this doesn't have the same ethical gravity as frozen embryos, it certainly could lead to an unfortunate fate for the potential babies if there's ever a mixup of the eggs at the storage facility or the fertility clinic.

Most importantly, though, is that AOC is telling women they can become mothers whenever they want – and, hey, you really don't even need a man to make it happen! Freeze your eggs, find some sperm – any man's will do! – and get yourself a baby when and where you want.

But, that's not how it works in real life. Many women can't afford the egg retrieval and storage fees, for one thing, and putting off motherhood is terrible advice. Even if you do it the "old-fashioned" way with a husband.

The Left has been selling women a bill of goods for years now, but there are real consequences for women when they play Russian roulette with motherhood. All too often, they realize they're called to be mothers when it's far too late.

There's nothing sadder than a woman who's lonely in her later years because she believed feminists.

There’s nothing wrong with a woman wanting a career, but there is something deeply dishonest about pretending biology is negotiable and technology can fix everything if something goes wrong in your life plan.

It can’t.

For all the talk about “empowerment” by women like AOC, women aren't empowered at all when they're told that motherhood can simply be shoved to the bottom of their to-do list and retrieved from a freezer when life finally gets convenient for them.

This egg-freezing gambit of AOC's will certainly end up hurting at least one woman who looks up to her, and that's a bad thing for all women.
