Trump White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has been keeping one heck of a secret for the past few months: she's expecting a baby girl in May of 2026. Leavitt, 28, made the announcement on Friday, saying she was "thrilled" about growing her family with husband, Nick Riccio, 60, and commenting that motherhood was "the closest thing to Heaven on Earth." The couple welcomed their first child, son Niko, in July 2024.

"My husband and I are thrilled to grow our family and can’t wait to watch our son become a big brother," Leavitt wrote in a post on her personal Instagram account. "My heart is overflowing with gratitude to God for the blessing of motherhood, which I truly believe is the closest thing to Heaven on Earth."

The news of the soon-to-be new arrival is not only exciting, it's also historic. Leavitt has no plans to leave her role at the White House, senior Trump administration officials confirmed, thus making her the first-ever pregnant presidential press secretary in U.S. history.

Leavitt heaped praise upon President Trump and her colleagues in the West Wing for creating a "pro-family environment" in the White House, writing, "I am also extremely grateful to President Trump and our Chief of Staff Susie Wiles for their support, and for fostering a pro-family environment in the White House. 2026 is going to be a great year and I am so excited to be a girl mom!"

Karoline Leavitt Drops Mic on Dems Calling on Troops to Defy Orders

From the outside, it does indeed seem like the Trump team has made the White House a friendly place for younger staffers to thrive both professionally and personally. This past Halloween, the White House live stream showed several staff members bring their young families through the trick-or-treat line in order to get candy from President and Mrs. Trump. Karoline Leavitt and Niko were at the front of the line.

Then, at Thanksgiving, Niko joined his mother in the White House Press Briefing Room to greet turkeys Gobble and Waddle as they made their way to be pardoned by the president.

Leavitt said that the addition to their family of a baby girl was "[t]he greatest Christmas gift we could ever ask for," and we here at RedState, of course, send our congratulations and very best wishes to Karoline, Nick, and Niko.
