The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is sounding the alarm that they are in possession of "credible intelligence" that Mexican criminals are placing bounties on the heads of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) agents working in the Chicago area.
Per a DHS press release circulating Tuesday, Mexican criminals are working "in coordination with domestic extremist groups" to place the bounties on federal law enforcement officials. Those criminal networks have apparently "issued explicit instructions" to leftist radicals in the United States—including gangs that roam the streets of Chicago—"to monitor, harass, and assassinate federal agents."

These "sympathetics" are part of "spotter networks" that are employed by the Mexican criminals to do their dirty work on the ground in the U.S. DHS warns that members of the Latin Kings gang in Chicago have placed spotters on rooftops to monitor the movements of ICE and CBP agents; these spotters are equipped with firearms and radios, and relay real-time coordinates. These spotter networks have reportedly mobilized ambushes and disruptions of routine ICE and CBP actions.

DHS Secretary Kristi Noem remarked, "These criminal networks are not just resisting the rule of law, they are waging an organized campaign of terror against the brave men and women who protect our borders and communities." Noem added, "Our agents are facing ambushes, drone surveillance, and death threats, all because they dare to enforce the laws passed by Congress. We will not back down from these threats, and every criminal, terrorist, and illegal alien will face American justice."
Tricia McLaughlin, spokesperson for DHS, told Fox News Tuesday that a "coordinated and highly organized" network of anti-American radicals are waging a terror campaign against federal law enforcement. "It's not just obstruction of justice that we're seeing [from the spotters]", commented McLaughlin, "We're also seeing [that] they're now handing over intelligence to these cartels, these criminal rings, to go after our law enforcement."

DHS urges the public, particularly residents of Chicago and Portland, to report any suspicious activities they encounter—including rooftop surveillance or organized protests that block federal operations—to the DHS Tip Line at 1-866-DHS-2-ICE or via the ICE website.
