If you've never heard of Democrat Senator Chris Van Hollen of Maryland, you're in good company. He's completely unremarkable as a lawmaker and is your typical "go along to get along" politician who was a reliable rubber stamp for Joe Biden. He also loves the exclusive lifestyle being in the Senate affords him. Van Hollen has spent his entire career in politics and has precious little real life experience from which to draw, which is abundantly evident based on the political farce he is threatening to pull off.

Here's the deal: on Monday, the very same day that an illegal from El Salvador was found guilty of the brutal 2023 rape and murder of Maryland mother-of-five Rachel Morin, Morin's senator, Chris Van Hollen, vowed he'd head to El Salvador on an absurd rescue mission to bring his "constituent" Kilmar Abrego Garcia back to the United States.

Abrego Garcia is, of course, the Salvadoran illegal—anyone sensing a pattern here?—who was recently returned to his homeland by the Trump administration and is now safely ensconced in the CECOT mega prison. He was found by two immigration courts to have ties to the violent MS-13 gang, has had a valid deportation order since 2019 and is apparently the hill on which Chris Van Hollen and his fellow Democrats are choosing to die. 

Here's the kicker: Van Hollen barely gave Rachel Morin, a legitimate, legal resident of Maryland, a second thought after her murder, paying lip service to her family with an insincere "my heart breaks" platitude followed by political posturing. The lack of compassion is astounding:

You have to wonder if the senator thinks of Rachel's murderer as one of his constituents? He seems very receptive to having illegals with gang ties making Maryland their home, opening the door for them to terrorize its residents. 

What is for certain is that Van Hollen is wholly committed to the farce that Kilmar Abrego Garcia had a legitimate reason to be in the United States and that he should be returned forthwith. It's all part of the "Maryland man" narrative being pushed by the left, where the "rights" of illegals are prioritized over those of true American citizens. 

Van Hollen first floated his rescue mission nonsense on Monday as El Salvador President Nayib Bukele met with President Trump at the White House. The senator demanded a meeting with Bukele and threatened to storm CECOT if his demand wasn't met. President Bukele apparently ignored this demand much in the same way Van Hollen ignored the plight of Rachel Morin's family.

Now, Van Hollen is doubling down, claiming he'll be heading south this week and it's unclear so far if American taxpayers will be footing the bill.

And what happens when he gets down to CECOT? Is he going to channel his inner AOC and break down in crocodile tears while clutching at the prison fencing? Will he don a superhero cape, fight off the fierce CECOT guards and carry off his "Maryland man" the same way Superman carried off Lois Lane? The whole thing is absurd. 

The guy is a joke, but the message behind his foolhardy ways is clear: Democrats are addicted to illegals.

This stunt isn’t just embarrassing—it’s revealing. While Chris Van Hollen turns a blind eye to the real suffering of Maryland families like Rachel Morin’s, he’s ready to grandstand halfway across the globe for an illegal immigrant with documented gang ties. This is the twisted priority list of today’s Democrat Party: coddle criminals, ignore victims and punish law-abiding Americans by putting them last.
