Quite a day at the DailyKos Nutroots Nation conference.
The panel everyone is going to be talking about for the next few days was the keynote session titled Making Herstory: The Women who are Shifting the Balance of Power in Washington
and if featured, among others, the little commies who are now engaged in a civil war with Nancy Pelosi: Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, and Ayanna Pressley. You can watch the whole session on Facebook if you think you can stomach it. If you’re not up to it, the odious Dave Weigel was there doing the play-by-play.
Netroots panel kicking off w @IlhanMN: “There’s a constant struggle with people who have power about sharing that power. And we are not really in the business of asking to share that power; we are in the business of grabbing that power to return it to the people.”
Up next, @AyannaPressley says that she is fed up with “palace intrigue,” not much mystery about what she means.
The panel is moderated by @aimeeallison, who is not interested in litigating Tweet Tweek, though she nodded at it in her intro. Moving conversation to child separation. @RashidaTlaib:”This is a whole generation of children who will never forget what our nation did to them.”
.@AyannaPressley: “What is happening in these ICE facilities where they pilot how they can abuse privacy rights, how they can abuse human rights, and they scale that up.” But notes that black and brown people disproportionately work for CBP.
“They are now a cog in this machine of oppression of people who look just like them.”
Quoting what a colleague said to her, @IlhanMN: “If there were dogs in those cages, every single member of Congress would vote to make sure those cages didn’t exist.”
Moderator brings up impeachmnt with @RashidaTlaib: “We’re gonna impeach the MFer, don’t worry,” she says.
Omar is recounting her questioning of Elliot Abrams in the Foreign Affairs committee: “[Knowing] the trail of blood that he has left in South and Central America. I wasn’t about to let him come and talk to us about what he was doing in Venezuela.”
Pressley seeming to hit back at the criticism from the CBC et al: “We don’t need any more brown faces that don’t want to be a brown voice. We don’t need any more black voices that don’t want to be a black voice.”
*black FACES that don’t want etc
This is the Pressley quote

I think she is calling them Oreos

Then Pressley weighed in
Just stop it. I said no such thing & spent much of my air time (as did the other Mbrs of Congress) lauding @RepBarbaraLee & others. I was inferring nothing. I was celebrating the power & value of *every* person's voice based on their lived experiences.

This is patent bullsh**. In the context of the panel, she’s clearly saying two things. That black or brown or sexually deviant representatives only speak for people like them and people who aren’t like them can just f*** right off. She’s also saying by implication that the Congressional Black Caucus and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus are disloyal to their own heritage presumably because they are supporting Nancy Pelosi.
The Democrats, both establishment and “Justice” varieties can try to tamp this down but the fact is that the Justice Democrats have no interest in winning the 2020 election–Trump is a much better foil for them than any Democrat–and probably no interest in retaining the House if that means that the Democrat caucus has a lot of members who are from purple districts or who are trying to hold onto seats in Red districts. They want a more cohesive and more radical majority in charge before trying to gain control. This is nearly a remake of the Menshevik-Bolshevik split in Revolutionary Russia.
Just this week, AOC accused Nancy Pelosi of fomenting death threats against her and her chief of staff, Saikat Chakrabarti, called both Blue Dog Democrats left in the House the equivalent of segregationists
and he said another Democrat might not be racist but that she supported racist policies. This latter comment drew a response from the House Democrat caucus:

Despite the excuse-making Pressley is engaged in, her meaning was quite clear. The existing minority leadership in the House, people who cut their teeth on the Civil Rights struggle, have forgotten where they come from and basically, as Omar called Hispanic Border Patrol agents, “cog[s] in the machine of oppression.”
