Good morning, and welcome to RedState's "Morning Minute" — a brief glimpse at which stories are trending at the moment and a look ahead at what the day may bring. Consider this your one-stop shop for news to kickstart your day.
TOP O' THE MORNIN'
Red-Hot at RedState
Newsom Sticks Another Fork in His Faltering Campaign Before It Begins With This Remark About Kamala
Newsom really can't talk because we probably wouldn't have heard about him either but for Brown. If they are going to start slinging scandalous poo, this could get very interesting. The fact that those two are generally the ones leading in polls for Democrats in 2028 says a lot about how bereft their bench is.
Boom: MS Gov. Tate Reeves Schools Gavin Newsom on California Reading Scores vs. Mississippi
Not only should Newsom take Reeves up on his offer of adding a reading coach to his staff, but he might also want to replace his comms team with people who actually can communicate without the F-bombs.
Chinese Tech Flaw Exposed Live Feeds From Thousands of American Homes
When the architecture of the modern American home runs through distant cloud servers controlled by companies already under national security review, privacy stops being a feature setting. It becomes a sovereignty question.
Trending Across Townhall Media
Bearing Arms — Georgia Sheriff Drops Hammer on 'Ghost Gun' Hysteria
See, what the anti-"ghost gun" jihadists never seem to do is show any data that shows how these guns are somehow arming people who couldn't be armed otherwise.
HotAir — 'Right Now, That Deal Is Worth Toilet Paper, Basically': Flushing Chagos
In a delightful twist (and thanks, GlobalTrvlr), the Chagossian First Minister has not yet been carted off the island.
PJ Media — Mamdani’s Disguised Threat to New York City’s Jews
That wake-up call is badly needed. Sadly, neither the New York electorate nor the media is holding Mamdani’s feet to the fire. He has four years to destroy New York City, with a special bullet for the city’s Jews, and he is off to a good start.
Townhall — You Knew These People Were Going to Try and Ruin the Most Significant US Olympic Win in Years
You people whining about Team USA winning, Donald Trump’s call to the men’s team as they celebrated, and a joke about inviting the women’s team to the State of the Union were taken way out of proportion.
Twitchy — David Hogg Brought Up to Speed About Fast and Furious Scandal
This is just like Gov. JB Pritzker claiming all of the guns in Chicago came from Indiana. If only other states would ban guns, Chicago gangs would be blowing bubbles at each other.
WHAT'S ON TAP?
Today on Capitol Hill...
The Critters are back today and have multiple hearings lined up, including:
- Senate Armed Services — Hearings to examine rebuilding American critical minerals supply chains
- House Foreign Affairs — Advancing National Security through Commercial Diplomacy
- House Science, Space, and Technology, Investigations and Oversight Subcommittee — Powering America's AI Future: Assessing Policy Options to Increase Data Center Infrastructure
- House Appropriations, National Security, Department of State, and Related Programs Subcommittee — Oversight Hearing – National Endowment for Democracy
- House Education and Workforce, Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education Subcommittee — "Building an AI-Ready America: Teaching in the AI Age"
And, of course, they'll be attending the State of the Union address this evening. (At least, the ones who aren't dramatically boycotting it.)
White House What's Up
Big day for President Trump:
- 9:00 AM — THE PRESIDENT participates in Executive Time — The White House
- 12:30 PM — THE PRESIDENT participates in the Annual State of the Union Luncheon — Blue Room
And, of course, at 9:00 PM Eastern, President Trump will deliver the State of the Union Address at the U.S. Capitol. We'll all be tuned in — and liveblogging the event, so be sure to join us here at RedState — the fun will kick off shortly before 9:00 p.m. ET.

Full Court Press...
The Supreme Court is back to hearing oral arguments this week. On Tuesday, it's just one case:
Enbridge Energy, LP v. Nessel — Whether district courts have the authority to excuse the thirty-day procedural time limit for removal in 28 U.S.C. § 1446(b)(1).
More importantly, the Court is expected to hand down one or more decisions today, beginning at 10:00 AM Eastern. We'll be following that closely, as well.
COMING ATTRACTIONS
President Trump will travel to Texas on Friday to deliver remarks at the Port of Corpus Christi.
Meanwhile, former White House occupants Hillary and Bill Clinton are set to testify before the House Oversight Committee on Thursday and Friday, respectively.
MORNING MUSING
I'm sure State of the Union day/night isn't quite that big a deal for apolitical folks — God bless them all; they're probably much better off than political nerds like me. But for those who are like me, this is somewhat like the Super Bowl.
As I noted above, RedState will be liveblogging tonight's festivities, and we hope you'll join us to share your thoughts on the address in real time. What do you suppose the big news will be to come from tonight's address? (Safe bet, it won't be the Speaker of the House ripping up the speech.)
Share your predictions and/or how you plan to watch (and whether there will be a drinking game involved) in the comments!
LIGHTER FARE
Must snoofle the snowzzles!
This is Wiley. He has never seen snow before and wants to make sure he gets a real good look at it. For science. 12/10 pic.twitter.com/VHmAqatEXA
