Joe Biden's Suspect Statement Regarding Hunter Ahead of Delaware Trial on Gun Charges

While President Joe Biden will be traveling to Connecticut Monday afternoon for a campaign event, his son, Hunter, will be sitting in a Wilmington, Delaware, courtroom as his trial on federal gun charges gets underway. First Lady Jill Biden is in attendance for the first day of the trial.

Ahead of the trial, Joe Biden issued a statement on the matter:

"I am the President, but I am also a Dad. Jill and I love our son, and we are so proud of the man he is today. Hunter's resilience in the face of adversity and the strength he has brought to his recovery are inspiring…

The statement reads:

"I am the President, but I am also a Dad. Jill and I love our son, and we are so proud of the man he is today. Hunter's resilience in the face of adversity and the strength he has brought to his recovery are inspiring to us. A lot of families have loved ones who have overcome addiction and know what we mean. As the President, I don't and won't comment on pending federal cases, but as a Dad, I have boundless love for my son, confidence in him, and respect for his strength. Our family has been through a lot together, and Jill and I are going to continue to be there for Hunter and our family with our love and support."

While one can understand a father expressing his love and support for his son under such circumstances, Biden's assertion that "As the President, I don't and won't comment on pending federal cases..." is interesting to note. He's obviously already commented on former President Donald Trump's recent trial and conviction in Manhattan, but that was a state case.

He's also weighed in previously on Trump's alleged mishandling of classified documents — the subject of one of the two of Trump's prosecutions by Biden's Justice Department.

Seeing the classified documents turned up by an Aug. 8 FBI search of Trump's Florida residence at Mar-a-Lago caused Biden to wonder "how anyone can be that irresponsible," he said in an interview on CBS' "60 Minutes" program.

(Those comments, of course, were made ahead of the discovery that Biden himself had some classified documents issues.)

Biden has also commented on January 6 and on the Colorado court ruling regarding Trump's inclusion on the ballot, referring to Trump as an "insurrectionist." Thus, one gets the distinct impression that Biden won't remain so circumspect on federal cases not involving his own flesh and blood.
