With a little less than three weeks to go before Election Day in Virginia, desperate Democrats are pulling out all the stops in an effort to try and mitigate the damage the Jay Jones texting scandal has done not just to his attorney general campaign, but to gubernatorial nominee Abigail Spanberger's campaign as well.
As RedState has reported, new polling from Trafalgar shows that GOP Attorney General Jason Miyares has surged ahead of Jones by six points after trailing him by four in another poll from the same group taken just a few days before the news broke.
The gubernatorial and lieutenant governor races have also tightened up, with both of them now in statistical ties and within the margin of error in the aftermath of the revelation of the text messages, as well as the sole gubernatorial debate between Spanberger and her GOP opponent, Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears.

Among the tactics being used by Virginia Democrats, as we've also noted, is "whataboutism," with some, like Rep. Don Beyer (D-VA), proclaiming that while what Jones texted "was awful" that it was "no worse than what Donald Trump says almost every day, and the things JD Vance has said, when you compare it to the other evil things."
"People make mistakes. I very much hope he prevails," Beyer went on to say, without providing any (non-existent) evidence regarding his claims about President Trump and Vice President Vance.
But we now have our clearest sign yet that Spanberger knows her campaign is in deep trouble. She's now trotting out the endorsement of former President Barack Obama, presumably in hopes of shoring up the youth vote and black vote as early voting continues in the commonwealth:
Former President Barack Obama is endorsing Democratic former Rep. Abigail Spanberger in the Virginia governor's race and starring in two new digital ads for her campaign.
"Virginia's elections are some of the most important in the country this year," Obama says in both ads, shared first with NBC News, which focus on the economy and abortion rights. He also says in both ads, "Every vote counts."
Here's one of the ads:

As the Virginia GOP was quick to point out, this is something that also happened during the implosion of Terry McAuliffe's failed 2021 Virginia gubernatorial campaign, in what yours truly recognized at the time was the panic truly setting in for McAuliffe.
"Barack Obama is trying to swoop in at the 11th hour to save Abigail Spanberger’s flailing campaign. But Virginians are over him just like they’re over Abigail Spanberger," the VA GOP wrote on X. "It didn’t work for Terry McAuliffe, and it won’t work for Abigail Spanberger. There is no saving her sinking ship."
What's next? A trip and endorsement from twice-failed Georgia Democrat gubernatorial nominee Stacey Abrams? That would truly make this little circle of fail complete.
