Newly declassified FBI memos have provided fresh and alarming details about a serious but familiar scandal involving former Rep. Eric Swalwell (CA-14).
The files reveal detailed evidence that the California Democrat — a one-time presidential candidate and recent gubernatorial hopeful — received illegal campaign donations from Christine Fang. She is the infamous Chinese national long suspected of working for Beijing’s intelligence services.
Swalwell, as RedState readers are well aware, had a well-documented relationship with the Chinese spy, who managed at one point to get an intern placed in his Washington office. According to these memos, he admitted to having an intimate sexual relationship with Fang.
The documents show the bureau had built a strong case around Swalwell's involvement with straw donations, intern placements, and a relationship he spent years trying to downplay.
For a politician who spent every waking moment of the Trump years loudly warning about foreign interference, the picture that emerges is far more compromising than anything previously made public.

The newly released memos lay out a series of troubling findings that go well beyond anything the American people previously were made aware of.
FBI investigators appear to have developed clear evidence that Fang funneled illegal campaign donations to Swalwell by routing the money through U.S. citizen conduits. Agents tracked multiple instances in which she reimbursed donors or used straw contributors to conceal the foreign source of the funds.
Fang also repeatedly referred interns to both Swalwell’s campaign and his congressional office. The bureau initially viewed those placements as a potential quid pro quo arrangement in which access and positions were exchanged for the illegal donations she was facilitating.
Oh, and as for the most nauseating revelations, Swalwell himself admitted to FBI agents during interviews that he had engaged in a sexual relationship with Fang on multiple occasions, including one incident in which she showed up at his door and the two “hooked up.”
A man who wanted to be President of the United States and very likely could have been the next governor of California basically whored himself out to China. No wonder he was so beloved by his Democrat colleagues.

The FBI opened a formal predicated investigation that initially treated both Swalwell and Fang as subjects, examining possible bribery and campaign-finance violations. After interviewing the congressman, agents eventually dropped him as a target and narrowed the case to focus solely on Fang’s illegal activities.
Despite assembling strong evidence of Fang’s crimes — including prohibited foreign contributions, conduit donations, and related false-statement offenses — the Justice Department declined to prosecute her after she fled to China.
Early oversight of the matter involved disgraced prosecutor Jack Smith, who would later gain national prominence for using flimsy evidence to attempt to prosecute President Trump on two separate occasions (one for the classified documents case, another for the 2020 election interference-January 6 case).

The revelations in a case that really put Swalwell on the map as an absolute scumbag are shocking. Swalwell would fight the allegations of his involvement with the Chinese spy tooth and nail, but was later forced to announce his resignation from Congress in April, after multiple women — including a former staffer — accused him of sexual misconduct and assault, with one alleging he raped her twice while she was too intoxicated to consent.
He is now facing criminal investigations in New York and California.
Aside from getting amorous with Chinese spies, Swalwell is best known for going shirtless on a camel in Qatar, portraying himself as a comic book superhero like the Avengers, and passing gas on live television.
