A House Homeland Security Committee hearing on Thursday grew incredibly contentious when Democrat Rep. Bennie Thompson (MS-2) dismissed the deadly ambush of two National Guard members in Washington, D.C., last month as an "unfortunate accident."
Thompson, a ranking member of the House Homeland Security Committee, but perhaps better known for chairing the three-ring circus known as the January 6th Select Committee, ignited a firestorm in his questioning of Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem.
Noem, who was facing questions about national security threats, appeared alongside National Counterterrorism Center Director Joe Kent and Michael Glasheen, the FBI's National Security Branch operations director.
Thompson's line of inquiry pivoted to the terrorist attack on the National Guard, in which 29-year-old Afghan national Rahmanullah Lakanwal shot both 20-year-old Sarah Beckstrom and 24-year-old Andrew Wolfe. Beckstrom, sadly, was killed in the attack. Wolfe was left clinging to life.
The congressman referenced the "unfortunate accident that occurred with the National Guardsmen," prompting Noem to immediately express shock and dismay.
"You think that was an unfortunate accident?" she incredulously asked. "It was a terrorist attack. He shot our National Guardsmen in the head."

Thompson immediately tried to shift the focus away from his own weapons-grade idiocy, saying he'll "get it straight" and requesting that the hearing Chair redirect Noem to answering his questions.
Thompson was desperately trying to draw focus to Trump administration actions regarding Lakanwal, rather than the fact that the Afghan terror suspect initially entered the U.S. in 2021 as part of President Biden's "Operation Allies Welcome" following the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan.
In doing so, he re-labeled the attack on the National Guard as an "unfortunate situation," refusing to treat it with the proper level of seriousness required over the death of Beckstrom, the near-killing of Wolfe, and the countless others who could have died if the shooter hadn't been neutralized so quickly.
It wasn't an accident. It wasn't a situation. And you, Mr. Thompson, are an ass.
What happened next in the hearing would be laughable if it weren't so serious. Thompson asks Noem who approved the asylum application for Lakanwal, and before she even utters a word, he interrupts, trying to prevent her from answering. For the record, Noem eventually states that the asylum claim was approved based on information provided by the Biden administration, which, as stated, had initially allowed him into the country.
Thompson, unaware that he was engaging in an intellectual gunfight armed with a potato, thought he had her cornered. He was truly convinced he had her. Even threatened perjury charges. And, not pleased with her answers, he turned to Kent for his comments.
"The individual was vetted to serve as a soldier in Afghanistan, and that vetting standard was used by the Biden administration as a ruse to bring him here," Kent replied. "Had we followed the Standard Operating Procedures for special immigrant visas, that individual and none of the (others) ... would have come to America. That's on Joe Biden."
Clearly not getting the answer he wanted yet again, Thompson fumbled about asking to reclaim his time and demanding Kent "just answer" the question.
"That was the answer," Kent fired back.
Rep. Ogles was even more bent over Bennie's comments.

"Point of order, Mr. Chairman, that was a murder that took place in D.C., it was not an 'unfortunate incident,'" Ogles hammered his colleague. "And those comments are effin disrespectful. I expect better from the ..."
He was cut off at that point.
Thompson's attempted deflection away from the Biden administration for their willful ignorance in letting terrorists into the country suffered another fatal blow when Kent pointed out that it was the previous President who allowed the country to be overrun by a "persistent threat."
18,000 "known and suspected terrorists" by his estimation.

“18,000 known and suspected terrorists the Biden administration let come into our country." 🤯
There’s no other way to put it.
Treason.

“That’s just what we know of,” Kent explained, suggesting the looming unknown numbers are the most alarming. "The No. 1 threat that we have right now, in my view, is the fact that we don’t know who came into our country in the last four years of Biden’s open borders."
“Yet the Biden administration … let them into the country and, in many cases, facilitated their entry," he added.
Perhaps Thompson views that widespread terror threat, aided and abetted by the former President, as an "unfortunate accident" as well. The only unfortunate situation is that people like Thompson, blithering idiots in the Democrat party, find themselves elected to Congress.
