Eric Swalwell Claims Military Members Are Privately Telling Him They Will Keep Trump in ‘Check’

California gubernatorial candidate and Democrat Rep. Eric Swalwell (CA-14) claims that military members have privately confided in him plans to serve as a "check" to any orders issued by President Trump, suggesting they could defy their superiors.

The idea that service members are secretly huddling with a congressman who can't bench press above 135 and whose top athletic feat was having to retire from soccer after breaking both of his thumbs is specious at best.

That said, his remarks are an attempt to keep the sedition train rolling in the wake of a video from six Democratic lawmakers encouraging military members to defy orders from their superiors.

Swalwell, who apparently is so strapped for time that he had to partake in an interview with Don Lemon while riding as a passenger in his car, discussed suggestions that the Trump administration is "telling on themselves" by going after Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) for taking part in the video.

But lo, there are leftist heroes amongst the military who allegedly want to heed Democrats' advice to defy wholly imagined "illegal orders." And they're running to the California lawmaker to let him know.

"What gives me hope, and I talk to service members all the time," Swalwell claimed without evidence. "They tell me that I don't appreciate enough and the public doesn't appreciate enough that while Congress is not a check on the president anymore, and the judiciary at the Supreme Court is hardly a check, military members have told me, ‘We can be a check.'"

"They’re essentially saying, ‘We’re not going to betray our oath to the Constitution because this guy tells us to,'" he added. "While it's not codified that way — they're not a branch of government on their own— their honor and integrity might just save us."

Enlisted and active-duty military members, of course, overwhelmingly support President Trump. Veterans strongly support the President. The notion that a handful of our troops, privately telling a rube like Swalwell that they side with him and are willing to serve as a "check" on the President, is unlikely at best.

Maybe he's talking to a handful of people modeling themselves after General Mark Milley, who somehow escaped court-martial after it was revealed he was willing to warn China if an attack was in the works during Trump's first term.

Not likely. But two things here. Swalwell is giving a wink and a nod here to military members who may lean Democrat, who may support him, that it would be an act of courage to keep the President in check by defying orders they interpret as illegal. His comments are no better than any that appeared in the "Seditious Six" video.

He's also putting the military in legal jeopardy by urging them to jump off a cliff on behalf of the resistance and to become insubordinate to those above them in the Chain of Command.

Everyone in the military takes an oath to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.” They also swear to “obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice.”

There is no ambiguity here. They are not to become a political tool on behalf of unhinged Democrats who think upholding immigration law, for example, is suddenly itself "illegal."

What bizarro world are we living in that the left views criminal illegals as upstanding citizens, while officials simply trying to enforce the laws are the ones engaging in illegal behavior?

Democrats are prodding the military to violate their oath to the Constitution. Independently judging or nullifying leadership decisions would lead to chaos, constitutional crises, or even civil unrest. It's exactly what people like Swalwell want.

Sedition to save democracy ... or something.
