NBC Chief White House Correspondent Peter Alexander just had what one can only define as a terrible day in the Oval Office.
Alexander, who found himself asking questions of President Trump during a meeting with South Africa's President Cyril Ramaphosa, probably wished he hadn't rolled out of bed for work this morning.
The only one who might have had a tougher day was Ramaphosa himself.
With South Africa's leader in the White House, the topic of conversation was bound to pivot at some point to the administration's admission of a group of 59 South African white people as refugees. The media has been obsessed with the small contingent because of their skin color, pouncing on that fact as if it's some sort of evidence that Trump's immigration policies are racist.
Alexander attempted to advance that narrative.
"Can you explain to Americans why it's appropriate to welcome white Afrikaners here when other refugees like Afghans, Venezuelans, Haitians have all had their protected status revoked?" he inquired.
Trump was all over him.
"This is a group, NBC, that is truly fake news. They ask a lot of questions that are very pointed in a way - They’re not questions, they’re statements," the President replied.

Trump then pointed to the obvious reason why they're admitting the South African refugees - An ongoing genocide.
"They say there's a lot of bad things going on in Africa, and that's what we're going to be discussing today," he explained. "We take from many locations if we feel there’s persecution, or genocide, going on."
Alexander, having been humiliated in front of his colleagues, decided he wanted a little more. Like Kevin Bacon in "Animal House," he asked for another.
President Trump had just wrapped up dimming the lights in the Oval Office and confronting Ramaphosa with receipts regarding the human rights violations and killing of white farmers (I strongly urge you to check out that incredible moment as well) when Alexander posed his next question ... about the Qatari jet.
It had zero bearing on what Trump had just shown, and the President quickly wrecked Alexander again.
"Now, what are you talking about that for?" Trump fired back. "You know, you ought to get out of here. What does this have to do with the Qatari jet?"
"It's NBC trying to get off the subject of what you just saw. You are a real - You're a terrible reporter," the President added. "Number one, you don't have what it takes to be a reporter, you're not smart enough."
"You're a disgrace," Trump added. "No more questions from you."

Alexander tries repeatedly to interject after this, but Trump promptly shuts him down, "Quiet. Quiet. Quiet."
The President went on to point out that if the media in America were legitimate in any way, they'd have reporters asking about the genocide, unlike the "jerk" who just asked a question about the Qatari jet.
He tossed in the word "idiot" for good measure.
It was like watching a child play a paddle ball game, with Alexander being the ball and Trump the paddle.
