What’s This? A Journalist Admitting the MSM Completely Fumbled on the Biden Mental Decline Story?

Axios reporter Alex Thompson scolded his media colleagues for completely whiffing on coverage of former President Joe Biden's incredibly evident mental decline.

Thompson voiced his criticisms while accepting the "Overall Excellence in White House Coverage" award at Saturday's White House Correspondents' Dinner.

"Being truth tellers also means telling the truth about ourselves. We, myself included, missed a lot of this story," Thompson told a crowd of numerous mainstream media personalities claiming to be journalists on their resumes.

"President Biden's decline and its cover-up by the people around him is a reminder that every White House, regardless of party, is capable of deception."

Jake Tapper Has a New Book Coming Out, and the Topic Will Melt Your Mind

Thompson proceeded to tell his media colleagues that American trust in their profession has been spiraling in recent years, due in part to stories like Biden's mental decline being deceptively covered.

"Some people trust us less because of it," he said. "We bear some responsibility for faith in the media being at such lows. I say this because acknowledging errors builds trust, and being defensive about them further erodes it."

"We should have done better," Thompson concluded.

For some, Thompson's lecture rings hollow. He and CNN anchor Jake Tapper are currently attempting to cash in on the Biden cognitive decline cover-up with a new book pretending everyone really knew all along, even as they actively showed little curiosity and failed to give the story its appropriate level of importance while it was happening.

Thompson, to his credit - a tiny nod - did cover some of Biden's physical limitations before the infamous presidential debate that blew up the concerted media cover-up of his mental frailties.

Thompson, however, may want to direct his ire at his co-author.

Tapper is the same man who blasted Lara Trump for pointing out Biden's cognitive decline. He was so adamant about it that he suggested Trump was mocking Biden's stutter, not the fact that, ya know, he didn't have the mental capacity to tie his own shoes.

Thompson could also point a finger at some of his Axios colleagues.

Axios published an article several months before the debate quoting Biden allies like Alejandro Mayorkas and Mitch Landrieu defending his mental agility against a special counsel report by Robert Hur, which described Biden as an "elderly man with a poor memory".

The article emphasized that Biden’s team dismissed the report as "BS" and highlighted his sharpness in meetings, amplifying the former President's defense rather than critically examining the allegations.

They did address a public poll showing that voters believed Biden lacked the mental stamina to run for re-election at the very bottom of the report, a pathetic attempt to show both sides on the matter.

A Gallup poll from this past October shows declining trust in U.S. institutions, with just 31% of Americans having significant confidence in the media's accurate reporting.

How the number is even that high is beyond comprehension.

Thompson's admission that the media failed deserves little to no credit after the fact. Watching him get awarded for White House coverage under Biden by the very people who helped protect the former President is exactly why nobody takes legacy media seriously anymore.
