In his first interview following the death of his mother, Barbara Bush, George W. Bush sat down with his wife, Laura, to talk with Fox Business’s Maria Bartiromo.

After discussing Barbara Bush’s passing and other topics, like the pardoning of Scooter Libby, Bartiromo turned her focus to former First Lady Laura Bush.

Bartiromo began by saying Mrs. Bush is still one of the most beloved former first ladies — to which W. cheered in, “All right!” — and asked if she had any advice for the current First Lady, Melania Trump.

Mrs. Bush demurred, saying she wouldn’t presume to give advice to Mrs. Trump, going on to remark on how well-comported and beautiful Melania is. Her husband, clearly looking to gain some “Best Husband” brownie points, chimed in with, “So are you, honey.”

BOOM.

Gentlemen (and women), take notes. We should all endeavor to be as authentically complimentary to others around us, particularly our significant others. For me, personally, as a rule of thumb, I always try to say the thoughts I would want to hear.
