On Thursday, President Donald Trump had a press briefing in the White House to announce a deal that would help to lower some drug prices for the American people.

Regeneron agreed to lower U.S. drug prices for some Americans as part of a deal with President Donald Trump, the White House said on Thursday.

The biotech company will also offer the first hearing-loss gene therapy for free to eligible U.S. patients following regulatory approval of the product earlier Thursday.

Regeneron is the latest in a string of major drugmakers to make pricing concessions for new and existing medicines under agreements with Trump. Those deals are part of his “most favored nation” effort to tie U.S. drug prices to the lowest ones in other developed nations.

That's pretty cool that they're going to offer it free to eligible patients, so more people can access it. And it sounds like a big breakthrough for someone who was completely deaf.

Trump has made 17 such deals with biotech and pharmaceutical companies to lower prices, and is looking to do more.

"With this announcement, 17 of the world's largest pharmaceutical companies, representing 80% of the branded drug market, have now agreed to sell their drugs to American patients at the lowest prices anywhere in the world," he said

That's likely to be transformative for many people. It was so wrong that we were paying more than other countries. It's another example of Trump addressing something that prior presidents didn't, like the border, to make things better.

There was a moment during the briefing that highlighted the success of such treatment being available. Sierra Smith explained what the drug did for her two-year-old son, Travis, who now can hear after being completely deaf.

"He didn't know his name. He couldn't hear me tell him how much I love him. And now with Regeneron and this amazing surgery, he can listen to music. And he loves it. And he loves to dance," she explained. It was "life-changing," she said.

Trump termed it "incredible" and called Travis a "beautiful boy." He also joked about how the media would find some way to paint the great story in a negative light.

But that was when Travis got a little rambunctious and stole the show. He decided he wanted to play and roll around on the rug in the room a little bit, as two-year-olds are inclined to do, as the adults continued on with the briefing. How cute is this?

Hopefully, this helps more people like Travis.
