Fetterman Drops a Short, Savage Assessment of Socialism When Asked About Mamdani

Zohran Mamdani is leading in the race for New York City against former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa.

Cuomo has been closing the gap, and everyone should get out to stop Mamdani.

Not only haven't the Democrats called out Mamdani's extremism, they have embraced it by endorsing him. They are the far left now, and his run has exposed that more.

Elon Musk called him out as the "future of the Democratic Party."

Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) is one of the only Democrats willing to call out the extremism in his party. He did so on CNN's State of the Union with Jake Tapper over the weekend, where he declared that while New York City was going to make its decision, "Socialism was not the future of my party."

"We all know how socialism works out," he warned. That's a short, powerful statement. He doesn't need to elaborate. Because he's right. We know. And we don't want to go there.

Fetterman also slipped in a scolding of the Democrats for still keeping the government shut down, "This is wrong. We are hurting the very people we fight for. We're getting nothing for them if we continue to keep our government shut down."

Unfortunately, Fetterman is now the fringe, and Elon Musk's assessment is much more likely, in my opinion. The "moderates" are being phased out or are rarities in the Democratic Party.

Bill Maher is another liberal who sees the problems in his party. During his Club Random podcast with Brian Tyler Cohen a couple of months ago, Maher took down Mamdani. Maher observed that New York City is a bellwether for the country, so who the mayor is matters. What was striking was how he said it would help the Republican Party.

"He [Mamdani] definitely has the power and influence to elect JD Vance, or whoever is the Republican candidate next time. It is a walking commercial for the Republican Party nationally.

When you let the Democrat Socialists - and now they're actually calling themselves Democrat Socialists - take over a major American city, this is what you get: state-run grocery stores, which worked so well in Cuba, the Soviet Union, and Venezuela. Bad ideas. And an ugly streak of antisemitism."

Cohen said that the Republicans would "boogeyman" any Democrat.

"Yes, but it has more weight when it's real," Maher replied.

And that's one of those most sage things that Maher has ever said, and it's something I said in the story about Mamdani I linked above. It used to be that the Democrats ran away from their socialist fringe. They even marginalized Sen Bernie Sanders (I-VT). Now they are led by the radicals, and socialist grocery stores are a serious discussion in New York City.

Maher is probably right that this will help Republicans politically. But we don't want Mamdani to succeed because it will hurt people, and we don't want socialism/radicalism to rise anywhere in this country. If he wins, he will show what a failure his promises are. Crime will rise, the socialist grocery stores will fail, and the "free" buses will become a haven for the homeless, if Mamdani is even able to get them to begin with.

We're already seeing the American people running away from Democrats because of extremism in all of its various forms. That includes the working-class base, which has been fleeing to the Republicans.

While Mamdani's failures will expose it for those of us who already know it, will it expose it for those who fell for it? Some, perhaps. But just as those on the left try to argue away Democrat failures now, they will try to argue away the failures of socialism as somehow the fault of Trump or capitalists. And they will keep trying to seize power. That's why we should do all we can, even in places like New York City, to not let them grab an inch.

Because they will take a mile.

Editor’s Note: The Schumer Shutdown is here. Rather than put the American people first, Chuck Schumer and the radical Democrats forced a government shutdown for healthcare for illegals. They own this.
