I wrote earlier about the despicable comments from unfunny late-night host Jimmy Kimmel - that MAGA was "desperately" trying to claim that Charlie Kirk's alleged assassin "wasn't one of them." Indeed, the shoe is on the other foot. People on the left and some in the liberal media, like Kimmel, seem to be doing all they can to run from the facts. They are either ignoring what authorities have said about the suspect's politics or denying it outright. It's a complete inversion of reality.

But CNN's Kaitlan Collins went to another level when she claimed that law enforcement hadn't put out a motive yet as to the killing of Kirk. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) was stupefied that she went there.

“Of course, we know. Come on,” replied Cruz. “We don’t have a motive yet? Really? Really, that’s CNN’s position? He just happened to fire the gun in celebration? You can’t tell the motive here?” That was a reference to former MSNBC host Matthew Dowd's depraved suggestion that a supporter might have shot off the gun as part of a "celebration." Cruz blasted her claim as "objectively false...CNN should not be engaged in misinformation."
Cruz is right, the authorities have said that he was a leftist who claimed that Charlie Kirk spread hate. The charges also alleged that he targeted Kirk for his political expression. So what does Collins think that means? Denying that the authorities laid out a motive is truly problematic for an alleged news network.

Cruz explained how the push of disinformation from the left and some media failing to report the facts may be the reason for polling that shows more people think the accused killer is a Republican, which I mentioned in my Kimmel story.
Collins then tries to "both sides" the question, and Cruz wouldn't let her get away with that. He said anyone engaged in acts of violence should be investigated. Then he trashed the "both sides" argument, saying it's the left that's been cheering things like the Kirk assassination - it isn't the same on both sides. He pointed to the polling that had a scary number of Democrats saying violence against Elon Musk or President Donald Trump was justified. He referenced Kamala Harris encouraging people to donate to a Minnesota bail fund during the 2020 riots there.
Collins' response? More attempts to "both sides" it. She spoke about violence against Democrats, mentioning the killing of a Democratic lawmaker (Melissa Hortman) and "Brett Kavanaugh." Now that's a bizarre comment. There's a problem with both of those claims. Supreme Court Justice Kavanaugh isn't a Democrat, and the person who allegedly wanted to kill him was not on the right.
Then, too, as Cruz explained, the person accused of killing the Democratic lawmaker was an appointee of Democrat Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, and the man didn't kill her for right-wing political reasons. Cruz pointed out how people on the right weren't celebrating that, and that he thought it was horrible. When Cruz pressed Collins, she wouldn't even acknowledge the truth - that there have been a lot of celebrations of Kirk's death on Bluesky, the leftist social media platform.
As our sister site Twitchy opined, Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) also whipped up rhetoric against Justices Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch in 2020. Schumer said they would "pay a price" for their decisions that he didn't like. Where is Collin's condemnation of that in this discussion?
