Kamala Harris has been avoiding questions and interviews since she was handed the presumptive nomination on a silver platter about 19 days ago. It's now sparking a lot of media stories, particularly after former President Donald Trump made a big deal about it in his free-wheeling press conference on Thursday. His running mate JD Vance did a mic drop on her, while talking to the reporters waiting for her, and making the point.
Politico revealed that the Harris team apparently thinks they can coast their way to not having an interview until possibly Labor Day, and she's not been pressed by media as much as they should be doing because she's been giving them "face time" -- talking to them off the record. That of course isn't answering any real questions, that's just telling them what you want them to hear.
She finally had to answer a question about not doing any interviews, but just said she was going to do one before the end of the month. That is 20-plus days away to prepare for; who needs that much time to prepare for an interview?
That should raise all kinds of flags. But unfortunately, so much of the media seems to be carrying water for her. I wrote earlier about how they're even interpreting her incoherent cackling as "joy" now, as Megyn Kelly reported.

Former President Donald Trump's VP running mate JD Vance had a great response to Kamala's press avoidance:
If we could convince Kamala Harris that illegal aliens are actually journalists trying to ask her questions she'd build that border wall in five seconds.

If we could convince Kamala Harris that illegal aliens are actually journalists trying to ask her questions she'd build that border wall in five seconds.
But an NBC correspondent Vaughn Hilyard really got people responding, when he said something that was just patently false about former President Donald Trump:
The last formal sit-down TV interview with a news organization that former President Trump did was on Meet the Press -- 11 months ago. https://t.co/J5F0JBAPFW
— Vaughn Hillyard (@VaughnHillyard) August 9, 2024
He claimed that Trump hadn't done a "formal sit-down interview with a news organization" in 11 months.
That was way over the edge, and not even close to being true.
The Trump War Room account on X pointed to multiple interviews that Trump has done just in the past month:
Vaughn, quit lying.

President Trump has done multiple sit-down interviews in the past month:
— @MariaBartiromo on 8/4
— @IngrahamAngle on 7/29
— @JesseBWatters on 7/22
— @HARRISFAULKNER on 7/15
To say nothing of the hour long press conference he did *yesterday,* the NABJ… https://t.co/JlrflT8HdC
That doesn't even include the more than an hour press conference that Trump did just the day before, where he answered all kinds of questions from non-friendly media, and the interview he did with the very non-friendly NABJ at the end of July -- the one that Harris wasn't brave enough to show up for. Then there was also the debate in late June, where Trump beat Joe Biden so badly the Democrats had to shove him out of the race. Trump also has done call-in interviews with people.
Does this NBC correspondent think we don't know this? How do you claim to be a journalist and put out such nonsense?
Many called him out.
They are doing everything they can to make excuses for why they are not busting Tim Walz on Stolen Valor or allowing Kamala Harris to lie about all her positions, including immigration and inflation.

That's the game. That's a modern day Democratic campaign. It's run by media. https://t.co/ssFzBzjEXW

I scrolled through his timeline and also noted there were no tweets questioning Kamala's actual press avoidance. And you wonder why people despise the media and don't trust them, when they put out things like this.
Editor's Note: This article was updated post-publication to reflect that the debate was in late June rather than July.
