Russia has been trying to push a lot of false claims to spin their invasion of Ukraine.
But according to reporting in the Daily Mail and the New York Post, there is one thing that they have said that is based on some truth – that Hunter Biden was involved in securing financing for Metabiota, a California defense contractor involved in biolab projects and pandemic research in Ukraine, when Joe Biden was vice president, according to emails on Hunter’s abandoned laptop.
Biden’s firm, Rosemont Seneca Technology Partners invested $500,000 in Metabiota and raised millions more for them through firms including Goldman Sachs, according to the emails. Hunter also connected Metabiota with Burisma – the Ukrainian gas firm that he was a board member of – for a “science project” involving biolabs in Ukraine.
A memo from a Metabiota official to the then-vice president’s son in 2014 said the company could “assert Ukraine’s cultural and economic independence from Russia.”
Metabiota vice president Mary Guttieri also wrote to Hunter about geopolitical issues involving the company’s research in the former Soviet republic in April 2014, two months after Russia invaded and annexed the Crimea region.
“As promised, I’ve prepared the attached memo, which provides an overview of Metabiota, our engagement in Ukraine, and how we can potentially leverage our team, networks, and concepts to assert Ukraine’s cultural and economic independence from Russia and continued integration into Western society,” her memo read.
Days later, Burisma executive Vadym Pozharskyi wrote to Biden about “as you called ‘Science Ukraine’ project.”
“As I understand the Metabiota was a subcontract to principal contactor of the DoD B&V [engineering firm Black & Veatch],” his e-mail read. “What kind of partnership Metabiota is looking for in Ukraine?”
The US awarded $23.9 million to Metabiota later in 2014, with $307,091 allocated for a “Ukrainian research projects,” government spending records showed.
The younger Biden bragged to investors that his company organized funding for Metabiota and helped it “get new customers” including “government agencies,” according to e-mails.
B&V had been commissioned in 2010 by the US Defense Threat Reduction Agency to build a lab in Odessa, to “enhance the government’s existing surveillance systems to detect, report and respond to bioterrorism attacks, epidemics and potential pandemics,” the company’s website said.
The Daily Mail has screenshots of some of the emails, and they’re worth a look.
The biolabs issue became a big question after Victoria Nuland recently testified about concern that Russian attacks might result in them getting their hands on things that could be problematic from the labs. The U.S. responded that the labs were involved in cleaning up left-over, Soviet-era pathogens.
So, this new information about Hunter Biden’s involvement raises multiple questions that need some answers.
Why was Hunter Biden allegedly involved in this, when his father was the point man for the Obama Administration in Ukraine? Why was Burisma – a gas company – involved with ‘science projects’ in Ukraine, and why was Hunter hooking them up with a company that researches pandemic viruses?
When Twitter and other social media shut down people sharing the NY Post’s story in October 2020, one part of the story was that the emails revealed then Vice President Joe Biden himself had met with Vadym Pozharskyi – contrary to his later claims that he knew nothing about his son’s business dealings and had nothing to do with them. After this broke in October 2020, the Biden team first claimed that there was no meeting on his formal schedule, but wouldn’t rule out that he might have met with him informally.
So, where is the investigation of Hunter Biden? It’s supposed to involve his international business dealings; the question is: does it cover any of these concerning issues?
