The Democrat Party has had, for decades, an arm's-length relationship with the truth, at best.
And as we're well aware, the Left lies with impunity when backed into a corner, including ridiculously making stuff on the fly when pesky facts get in the way of their various narratives.
The latter was the case on Monday when embattled Virginia Democrat gubernatorial nominee Abigail Spanberger attempted to redefine the purpose of ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) during an interview in which she clearly struggled:
Related to the value or purpose of ICE , when ICE was put together, [mumbles] multiple organizations came together under the umbrella of ICE for the purpose of [mumbles] the importation of goods — in addition to people crossing borders so [mumbles] that we could, under Homeland Security, have a better [mumbles] view of what risks are facing our country. ...
I think when we pivoted primarily toward counterterrorism focus, then that did change the tenor of the way that ICE agents were engaging with people, because now there's a move from patrolling or protecting the border to this idea that [we're] keeping terrorists out, or we're protecting the homeland in a different way that becomes more of a focus of what ... offense is that person looking to ... um... commit.

Where does one begin?
Where does an honest, rational individual with a modicum of knowledge of the four disastrous years of the Biden-Harris administration, importing as many illegal aliens as they could get away with — and the related crimes that have followed — begin to dissect Spanberger's pathetic attempt to suggest that ICE is overstepping the job it was created to do?
Let's start with the history of ICE, which was created in 2002, following the September 11 attacks, and is under the supervision of the Department of Homeland Security with a stated mission to conduct criminal investigations, enforce immigration laws, preserve national security, and protect public safety.
ICE consists of two main law enforcement branches—Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO)—along with three supporting divisions: Management and Program Administration, the Office of the Principal Legal Advisor (OPLA), and the Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR).
In other words, Spanberger's absurd claim that the agency was principally created to oversee the importation of goods — although she did follow it up with a reference to "people crossing borders" — was laughable.
Next up, Spanberger's incredulous problem with ICE operating, in part, as a counterterrorist organization is mind-blowingly ignorant. Of course ICE functions in a counterterrorist manner when necessary. You know, Abigail — it's part of that whole "homeland security" thing.
Moreover, of course there's been a shift from primarily patrolling and protecting the border because President Donald Trump and his team have done exactly what Trump pledged to do throughout his 2024 presidential campaign: secure the border.
And yes, Abigail, given the millions of illegals who waltzed into the country during the Biden Border Crisis™, ICE agents and other law enforcement officials are now working under dangerous conditions to return Joe's illegals to their countries of origin, or anywhere else not named America.

In related news, poll results released on Monday showed Spanberger with a 12-point lead over Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears, with just seven days [as of Monday] until the gubernatorial election.
The poll, conducted by the Washington Post-Schar School at George Mason University, showed Spanberger at 54 percent and Earle-Sears at 42 percent, among likely voters.
Clearly, Virginia Republicans, you guys need to get out the vote!
