PBS Serves Up Perfect Example of Why Trump 'Would Love' to End Taxpayer Funding of Public Broadcasting

Townhall Media

As President Donald Trump continues to threaten the very foundations of government waste, fraud, DEI initiatives, and leftist grifting, left-wingers across America continue to lose their minds.

One of Trump's most recent targets is taxpayer funding of mainstream media outlets PBS (Public Broadcasting Service) and NPR (National Public Radio).

During a meeting at the White House on Tuesday, a reporter asked the president about the DOGE Subcommittee, titled "Anti-American Airwaves: Holding the heads of NPR and PBS Accountable," where NPR and PBS leaders are expected to testify. Trump responded:

Well, I would love to do that. I think it's very unfair. It's been very biased. The whole group, I mean, a whole group of them. And frankly, there's plenty of -- look at all the media you have right now. There's plenty of coverage.

Trump couldn't have been more spot-on if he tried.

As we've discussed innumerable times in the past, the Democrat Party is the most hypocritical group of people on the planet. From obfuscation to deflection to whataboutism to bald-faced lies, the left continues to pollute so-called "mainstream" media beyond the point of saturation.

From the alphabet networks — ABC, CBS, and NBC —to wanna-be-taken-seriously CNN and MSNBC, tens of millions of freedom-loving, patriotic Americans continue to tune out and look to alternative media for both news and commentary.

Meanwhile, as most of the known universe likely knows by now, The (left-wing rag) Atlantic on Monday broke a story that editor Jeffrey Goldberg had been accidentally added to a Signal text group with Vice President JD Vance and the Trump administration national security team, including Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. The writer claimed he was privy to the classified details surrounding the bombing of the Houthis in Yemen. The administration later confirmed the story while also insisting that no classified information was involved.

Before Goldberg's revelation, he hosted a predictable left-wing episode of PBS's "Washington Week with The Atlantic," during which Washington Post columnist David Ignatius and Atlantic writer Michael Scherer helped him hype the “constitutional crisis” (the phrase appears 16 times in the show’s transcript) of Trump supposedly defying the U.S. judicial system, and perhaps even the Supreme Court.

Among Goldberg's comments:

The Trump Administration's confrontation with the judicial branch raises new fears of a possible constitutional crisis….People throw around the term constitutional crisis all the time, and I include myself in the category of people here, but what does it actually mean? Would it be a constitutional crisis if the president defies a federal judge's order on the detention of immigrants? Are we already in such a crisis?

Let's see... how many times has the left warned about a "constitutional crisis" under Donald Trump? (Round your answer to the nearest 100, if you want). The question is rhetorical, of course, but here's the real question:

While the government's job isn't to limit or deny free speech to one side or the other (which it does with NPR and PBS), is it the government's job to give taxpayer funds to one side so it can continue to bash the other? The answer is a resounding no on both counts.

So let's stop this insanity in its tracks, as President Trump, Elon Musk, and DOGE continue to do in as many areas and with as many issues as they can identify.

The Bottom Line

Let's revisit the left's depth of hypocrisy before we wrap this one up.

Imagine, for a nanosecond, the reaction of the left — from congressional Democrats to the "mainstream" media and everywhere else on the left — if a public broadcasting version of Fox News (or even a more conservative outlet) were to be created and funded in part (as are NPR and PBS) by taxpayer dollars.

All we'd have to do is open our windows to hear the histrionic meltdowns and hissy fits across America.

Editor's Note: The mainstream media continues to deflect, gaslight, spin, and lie.
