Democrats in Congress are Helping Liz Cheney Ahead of Wyoming Primary

The Wyoming primary will take place on Tuesday, August 16. Republican Congresswoman Liz Cheney is in an uphill battle against Trump-endorsed Harriet Hageman. She has asked Wyoming Democrats to change party affiliation and vote for her, Democratic donors have given funds to Cheney, and the polls still look grim for the GOP Congresswoman. Now, Cheney is pulling out all the stops in order to have a chance to win in the primary.

Two House Democrats have now asked Democratic members of the party to switch to Republican, temporarily, to vote for Cheney. Congressmen Tom Malinowski (D-NJ) and Dean Phillips (D-MN) endorsed Cheney in online ads.

In a Facebook ad, Malinowski said:

“Liz Cheney and I don’t agree on everything … But we’re on the same side today, fighting for a country where we settle our differences by voting, not violence … Wyoming Democrats can put country over party too by registering to vote for her in the Republican primary,”

In another Facebook ad, Dean Phillips said:

“You might be a little surprised that I’d be supporting Liz Cheney in her bid to continue representing Wyoming in the U.S. House, but principle must always come before politics, and nobody has shown more honor, integrity, and courage than she … So I ask you to please consider temporarily switching parties and voting for Liz Cheney on or by August 16th.”

Whether Democrats in Wyoming will register as Republicans and vote for Cheney remains to be seen, but she is sparing no effort, thinking it could happen.

For those who have not seen it, here is the Cheney ad:

Conservatives and leftists vehemently disagree on most every issue; however, they seem to agree in their dim view of Dick Cheney these days. So this tactic by Liz, airing her father’s ad on “Fox and Friends” and “Hannity,” will likely be for nothing.

Dick Cheney is one of the last people who should be speaking about “truth” after all the lies he told during his tenure as Vice President under George W. Bush. So Liz has brought out everybody, from Dick Cheney to Democratic donors to Democratic colleagues. But it might be too little, too late, as every poll shows her trailing big. It would take Democrats and Independents to register as Republicans and vote for her. There is a slim chance she wins.

If Cheney does not win in the primary, she can probably snag a role on CNN, as we have seen a trend of politicians who lose races and work for the mainstream media. She has also teased a 2024 run, but unless Democrats switch parties to vote for her, she has no chance in a GOP presidential primary.
