Secretary of War Pete Hegseth’s plane was forced to make an emergency landing in the United Kingdom on Wednesday because of a windshield issue.
Hegseth and others were returning to the United States following a NATO meeting in Brussels when the plane’s windshield cracked.
Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell posted a statement about the incident on X:

“On the way back to the United States from NATO’s Defense Ministers meeting, Secretary of War Hegseth’s plane made an unscheduled landing in the United Kingdom due to a crack in the aircraft windshield. The plane landed based on standard procedures and everyone onboard, including Secretary Hegseth, is safe.”
Fox News reported that the plane Hegseth was onboard “reportedly dropped about 10,000 feet in flight, although we don’t have that confirmed just yet.”

The reported drop of the aircraft followed a post on X from Nick Sortor that reportedly showed the path the aircraft was on before it made a sudden landing.

It read:
JUST IN: The Air Force C-32 carrying Secretary Pete Hegseth has declared an emergency over the Atlantic, dropped to 10,000 feet, and now reversed course to the UK.
Plane is squawking 7700, which could mean an engine failure, medical issue, onboard fire, or another general emergency.
Hegseth has since responded on X about what happened.

At the time of this report, there is no other information about how the windshield cracked or what else occurred.
