U.S. Representative Jerry Nadler, a prominent member of Democratic leadership in the House, has released a statement calling on New York Governor Andrew Cuomo to resign.

Nadler, who represents parts of Manhattan and Brooklyn in the U.S. House, is the highest-ranking Democrat to call for Cuomo’s resignation. His statement was released on Twitter this morning.

Nadler joins a list of more than a dozen House Democrats to call for Cuomo’s resignation.

One other prominent New York Democrat, Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, has punted on the issue, showing worry over the claims but so far not commenting on whether or not Cuomo should resign. Other New York Democrats in the state legislature have been vocal in calling for the governor to step down.

Multiple former female staffers and journalists have come forward with allegations about Cuomo’s treatment of them. One of the latest claims involves sexual assault, which is now being investigated by law enforcement.

The wave of allegations also come amid a scandal involving the Cuomo administration’s cover-up of nursing home deaths after his disastrous policy move of forcing nursing homes to take in COVID-positive patients. The number of deaths as a result of that policy is in the thousands.
