After 30-plus years of grift, corruption, and undue political influence, on Thursday, the Department of Justice finally dropped the hammer on VA Democrat state Sen. Louise Lucas. This is way overdue, and as a Black woman and a conservative, I am not shedding a single tear and, frankly, have to resist the desire to laugh.

Attorney General Todd Blanche said in a morning press conference:

Louise Lucas has served in a position of public trust in the Commonwealth of Virginia for over three decades. The charges alleged in this indictment reveal the behavior of a public servant who put her own financial interests before the people she was elected to serve. Our federal prosecutors will continue to be guided by the facts and evidence that led a grand jury to indict Ms. Lucas and her alleged co-conspirators.

As my RedState colleague Teri Christoph reported:

She is charged with racketeering conspiracy, conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute marijuana, conspiracy to launder money, conspiracy to commit honest-services fraud, and maintaining a drug-involved premises.

Federal prosecutors allege the Lucas enterprise illegally distributed marijuana and used her political influence to shape cannabis laws in what she herself called “generational wealth.” She also is quoted in the charging documents as saying, "I've got too old to not be greedy."

That part. Lucas reached the ripe, old age of 82, and instead of generational wealth, the legacy she leaves to her grandchildren is that grandma is a straight-up gangster.

What makes it worse is that Lucas plays the victim, pretending she is being targeted by a corrupt administration. This was Lucas' statement that she issued on social media at the same time as the DOJ press conference announcing the indictment.

Today, the FBI, the Department of Justice, and the full weight of the federal government have been wielded against an 82-year-old great-grandmother.

Seriously?! You're on wiretap talking about being "too old not to be greedy" and building a criminal enterprise in order to get generational wealth, and now you want to play the feeble grandma card? This 82-year-old grandmother should be ashamed of herself.

But along with the " I'm just an old lady" card, Lucas whipped out that tried, true, and hackneyed race card.

I grew up under Jim Crow. I’ve seen what happens when people in power try to silence those who stand up to them. I spent my life fighting back, and I’m not stopping now.

My grandma Annie, my mother Bernice, and her sisters Geraldine, Cornell, Allene, and Everette also lived under Jim Crow. Both Grannie and mom were raised in a particular way, and it was passed on to us: we eschewed the types of actions and behavior that Lucas, and apparently her family, considered their manifest right. We watched our behavior and our actions because 1) we had to answer to God, 2) we bore the family name, and 3) we had to answer to the community. My family would have deemed the Lucas family as people with whom one should not have close association. My mother used to quote 1 Corinthians 15:33 often: "Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners."

So, Lucas is one of those foolish women whom my family would consider not worthy of anyone's respect, let alone sympathy.

Lucas' last line really takes the cake: "I'm not new to this, I'm true to this." True to what? Graft, corruption, malfeasance? Or your ability to circumvent justice because you've managed to do it for decades? Judgment Day comes for us all, and I believe it has now come for her.

We have all been watching the train wreck that is Democrat Rep. Ilhan Omar (MN-05), and she, too, has been pulling from the victimhood playbook in order to detract from her potential crimes.

As my RedState colleague Nick Arama reported:

Her home was raided earlier this week by federal agents; reports indicated they'd seized her phone, laptops, and passport. She's facing multiple investigations, including over immigration paperwork and financial disclosures. There have also been several subpoenas issued, reportedly including to her relatives.

Now, Omar is employing tears and entreaties for money. Call it Somali privilege, I guess.

On top of their criminal behavior and flagrant grift, what I find egregious about Louise Lucas and Ilhan Omar is they have crafted lives without character or consequence, and lived high on the hog as a result of it. But when they actually begin to suffer the consequences of those choices, they act as if it is the world that needs to be set straight - and not their actions and behavior that need to be called to account.

As a Black woman and a Christian, I have strived to watch my life and character closely. Because of those choices, I have suffered setbacks, missed opportunities, and even lost chances to gain wealth, because there are certain places I chose not go, and certain lines I chose not to cross. Integrity is its own reward. For one, you sleep much better at night, and you rarely have to look over your shoulder. By the time you reach my age, you're pretty confident the people you've surrounded yourself with are ride or die, and not hanging on for what they can get: whether that's money, power, or influence.

The fact that Lucas and Omar drape themselves in what I will term "Black Woman Privilege," in order to get a pass for their lies, graft, and deception, is a terrible precedent. The fact that they are elected officials who have platforms makes it even more egregious.

Lucas deserves to be put under a jail, and Omar needs to be denaturalized and deported. Justice and recompense to their victims should be the example set. Integrity and character are the true generational wealth.
