With 60 percent of precincts reporting, it appears the South Carolina Republican governor's primary will move into a runoff between Trump-endorsed Lt. Gov. Pam Evette, who as of this writing had 29 percent of the vote, and Attorney General Alan Wilson, with 26 percent of the vote. Neither candidate moved beyond the 50 percent threshold to win the race outright.

While much of the attention on this race was framed around Evette and Congresswoman Nancy Mace (SC-01), apart from Wilson, three additional candidates also ran in this contest. Evette took first place, and Alan Wilson maintained his place in second. Nancy Mace? She placed fifth.
On May 29, two weeks ahead of the South Carolina primary, President Trump formally endorsed Evette for the governor's contest, bypassing Mace, who was confident she would be the one to receive it. Mace claimed it was her defense of the Epstein victims and demanding transparency on the so-called Epstein files that cost her the coveted endorsement. Mace opted to relinquish her congressional seat in order to run for South Carolina governor. So, once she completes her current term in January 2027, her political career will have come to a close, at least for now.

Evette touted her government experience, coupled with her private sector experience as a business owner. Evette also emphasized her alignment with conservative principles and her consistent support of President Trump and his agenda.
Wilson is running on a platform of affordability, public safety, and job creation across the state, along with bridging political divides in order to see that come about.
Evette and Wilson will face off again in the June 23 runoff and have committed to a debate before then.
