Mike Johnson Records JD Vance's First Time Seeing the Oval Office—'It's Incredible'

In his daily press briefing on Wednesday, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) related this story about a meeting with President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance, where Trump and Johnson discovered that Vance had never stepped foot in the Oval Office—ever, in his life. Vance is 40 years old and had a high-profile career before becoming the senator from Ohio and then being tapped by Trump for the vice presidency. So most of the positions he has held in life would have given him ample opportunity to visit the White House. What are the odds that the very first time he would be doing so is as the vice president of the United States?

We live in glorious times.

JOHNSON: Only in America can a young man from humble circumstances from Appalachia rise to be the vice president and step into the Oval Office for the first time with that title. It's really something. We live in a great country.

Indeed we do, and what a great testament to who JD Vance is and why America loves him and his family. From the moments during the inaugural celebrations to his response to that woke Bishopess during that awful prayer service, Vance approaches each moment with honesty, humility and dare I say it? A childlike sense of wonder. This young man has had an incredible ride from Appalachia to the White House, and while he is experiencing all of it for the first time, Vance has invited we, the American people, to experience it too. Vance's fresh and sometimes unfiltered responses to this journey and his new surroundings are something everyone can relate to. Just as he did in his memoir, "Hillbilly Elegy," Vance has engaged us, his audience, and he is taking us along on the pilgrimage while we gladly partake and look forward to each chapter.

Vance did well in his adult years: his work for venture capitalist Peter Thiel, a bestselling book, and building his own successful businesses before becoming the senator from Ohio. Because of this, many legacy media commentators paint his life as one of privilege, but they could not be more wrong. As the vice president of the United States, Vance's life is now one of privilege, but the road to get here was anything but. The American people recognize this and understand that Vance represents the American Dream and what this country is all about.

Here is Johnson's recording of Vice President JD Vance walking into the Oval Office for the first time.

Vance's response is pure joy, and we're here for all of it.

As we gathered for our meeting at the White House yesterday, JD Vance mentioned to us that he had never before visited the Oval Office. I told him and President Trump that I HAD to capture the moment on video. Only in America can a hardworking young man from Appalachia rise from his humble circumstances to enter the Oval for first time as VICE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. What a country!
