"Vindicating Trump" is the latest docufilm offering from author, historian and filmmaker Dinesh D'Souza with his producing partner Bruce Schooley. The title evokes a deep dive into documented evidence of the years-long targeting of former President and GOP nominee Donald Trump, from the Steele Dossier to the 91 indictments. However, it's less rehash and more reacquaint. We get a different lens on Trump, through an interview with D'Souza just days after the July 13 assassination attempt in Butler, PA, and perspectives from daughter-in-law and Republican National Committee co-chair Lara Trump, and Trump lead attorney Alina Habba.
D'Souza also makes comparison between the 45th (and possibly 47th) president and the 16th president Abraham Lincoln, as men who had insight into the state of the country and had a vision on what it would take to fix it. The interviews with the former President, Lara Trump, and Alina Habba are buttressed with news clips of Trump's journey from the golden escalator to 45th President to 2024 candidate, weaved with dramatic reimagining from the Never Trump wing of the Republican National Committee, the Democrat National Committee, the Department of Justice, and a Democrat campaign office. These dramatizations give deeper insight into the skullduggery employed against Trump, coupled with some comic relief.
Because the four years of the Trump presidency and the 2024 presidential campaign has been a never-ending whiplash of hearings, investigations, and indictments, D'Souza walks the audience quickly through the Democrat Left's shenanigans: Russia, Russia, Russia!, the mass surveillance, the censorship and collusion, to targeting Trump with attempted legal assassinations, financial ruin, and the fomenting of speech which led to the assassination attempts against him.
Friedrich Nietzsche said, "That which does not kill us makes us stronger." D'Souza reflects that in terms of the attempts to destroy Trump, it has not only made him stronger, it has made him supercharged. In the last several months, Trump has taken on folklore and legend status. D'Souza analogizes this by comparing Trump to the mythic hero of the American Western genre.
But the most sobering section of "Vindicating Trump" is the 35 or so minutes dedicated to election integrity. This is the area where "Vindicating Trump" takes on a crucial tenor. The Democrat Left most despises Trump because of his refusal to cede the 2020 election. While they want him and his surrogates to say it was a free and fair election, Trump has tacitly refused. As the evidence from that election continues to be revealed, it shows that he was not wrong. Trump tells D'Souza that Democrats are horrible at everything, but exceptionally good at one thing. "They're good at cheating with elections," Trump said. Habba also discussed the creative and corrupt ways the Left employs to weight elections in their favor, particularly through lawfare. "It's a new form of cheating," Habba said.
D'Souza featured two election integrity experts: election integrity activist and founder of Midwest Swamp Watch Rick Weible, and journalist Ernest White, who talked about the ease of simply purchasing ballot paper and getting it delivered to ones' home, printing up ballots for a certain state (usually blue), then using voter rolls (which can also be easily purchased) to create additional voters in order to pad election night numbers. Along with the horror of how convenient this is for bad actors, it is equally terrible that attorneys general in blue states do not wish to safeguard their voting processes. Integrity activist Rick Weible said, "We value money more than our actual votes in this country, so we don't have the same kind of security on the ballot that we do on our dollar bills."
One could go away severely depressed if not for the diligence of RNC co-chair Lara Trump, and the work she and co-chair Michael Whatley have done to shore up the 2024 election, to encourage and ensure that all Americans can cast their vote with confidence. Trump told D'Souza, "We have good people. All I want you to do is guard the vote. Make sure it's not swapped, it's not thrown out, bad things don't happen."
"Vindicating Trump" ends with a discussion on the true threat to democracy from the Democrat's bloodless coup: replacing President Joe Biden with Vice President Kamala Harris at the top of the 2024 Democrat ticket. D'Souza warns not to let Harris' word salads and cackling fool you: she is a radical threat to our republic, along with the party that enables her.
