Apparently, disgraced former journalist Dan Rather, also known as the Godfather of Fake News, loves abortion. In fact, he loves it so much he is cheering the recent spike in abortions across the country. In a post on his blog, Rather discussed recent developments in the abortion debate involving red states passing legislation restricting the procedure after Roe v. Wade was overturned.
Rather argued that the overturning of Roe is damaging Republicans politically and suggested it could be a key issue in the upcoming presidential election. First, he highlighted an Idaho case taken up by the Supreme Court. The court will decide whether emergency room doctors would be allowed to perform abortions on mothers in crisis even with the state’s ban on the procedure.
“To enable emergency access to abortion in states with bans like Idaho, the Biden administration argued the 10-year-old Emergency Medical Treatment & Labor Act should permit doctors to perform all emergency services, including abortions,” Rather wrote.
He then highlighted some cases in Texas and North Carolina in which a mother who miscarried was denied by a Houston emergency room and another who was denied an ultrasound after experiencing stomach pain. Her baby later died after the mother gave birth.
Then, he highlights the fact that men and women are taking precautions to ensure that pregnancy does not occur in the first place.
In the we-should-have-seen-that-one-coming category, according to a new study from the University of Pittsburgh, since Dobbs, doctors have performed a significant increase in procedures that cause permanent contraception. More men are choosing to get vasectomies, and twice as many women are opting for tubal sterilization. If our citizens, especially women, are being told they cannot have control over their reproductive health, many have decided to take away the possibility of reproducing altogether. Before Dobbs, the U.S. birth rate was at an all-time low. It has dropped even further since June 2022.
Rather then celebrated the fact that abortion rates are “at their highest levels in more than a decade.”
Last year saw a 10% increase in abortions nationwide. In states without bans, the increase was 25%. The reason for the rise in abortions, even though it's nearly impossible to get one in almost half the country, is three-fold. Since Dobbs, medication abortions are more widely available, the financial support for those seeking abortions has increased, and states where abortion is legal have improved protections.
So, in essence, Rather and his ilk want as many women to terminate their pregnancies as possible, which would explain their enmity toward the current Supreme Court, which has not been as friendly to abortion as in years past.
Rather’s diatribe further illustrates how many on the left have moved from being pro-choice to being pro-abortion. In the past, most agreed that abortions were not desirable. However, pro-choice folks believed that while abortions are a tragic reality, the government should not restrict the procedure.
Nowadays, this viewpoint has been all but entirely erased from national conversations on abortions. At this moment, folks like Rather are actively advocating for women to kill their babies in the womb. They want abortions to happen.
This departure from the pro-choice position signifies just how extreme the hard left has become in a myriad of ways, abortion being the most glaring.
