NFL Player Pays Off 300 Layaway Accounts at Local Walmart

An NFL player is certainly in the holiday spirit. Chicago Bears linebacker Khalil Mack gave a wonderful Christmas gift to people in his hometown by paying off all of the holiday layaway accounts at his local Walmart.

Mack’s good deed was announced on the Fort Pierce store’s Facebook page. “We here at Walmart would like to thank the Khalil Mack Foundation for your generosity, and for making so many families happy for the holidays,” they wrote. “Everyone is truly grateful for everything you have done for them!”

The linebacker’s foundation approached the store’s management asking to be their secret Santa. The store manager did not reveal the dollar amount that Mack donated but said that it covered more than 300 layaway accounts. It wasn’t the 28-year-old NFL player’s first charitable act this year.

Last week, Mack donated $2,000 to the Chicago Chargers’ U14 Pop Warner football team after learning they had fallen short of their fundraising goal. But he didn’t stop there. He also bought 100 pairs of cleats for all of the football players at his former high school before the season began. The students were quite grateful for his gift.

The Khalil Mack Foundation focuses on serving underprivileged youth in the inner cities. According to his website, the organization’s objective is to:

“Positively affect the lives of intercity and under-privileged youth and families by providing for the community, through educational and extra-curricular initiatives, a safe and enjoyable environment where we intend to aid in learning successful character traits through sport, and creating opportunities to financial resources and meaningful experiences to all we serve.”
