Congress Owns This

David Webb and Bonchie are Right; Congress owns the Border Emergency Declaration issue.

Yesterday, I did a quick write up regarding the 59-41 Senate vote to revoke President Trump’s State of Emergency Declaration.

In it I took a quick jab at Congress for actually being the proximate cause of this particular issue.

My question to these self-righteous Senators, “Why haven’t you introduced legislation modifying or repealing the existing legislation that Congress used to give these powers to the President in the first place? Legislation—a law passed by Congress. You know, that Article I thing?”

I wasn’t able to fully address the issues in a breaking news article, but my compatriot Bonchie, grabbed the baton and cranked out an outstanding piece about the two fundamental components of this fight: The Constitution and Presidential Power grabs.

Bonchie totally destroys the arguments of both the left and the right, placing the Constitutional issue, right where it belongs, with Congress and its 1976 National Emergencies Act. He also and quite rightly skewers the absurd notion that Trump’s actions today, will somehow foster illegalities by some future Democrat President. If you haven’t done so, please go have a look at his work.

Bonchie’s position (and mine) is getting some National traction. This morning I had a chance to speak with conservative commentator and Sirius Radio host (Patriot-125) David Webb, who might be familiar to some of you for being the target of a poorly aimed liberal shot, when CNN’s Areva Martin accused him (having never met him) of “White Privilege.” Mr. Webb is black.

In any case, Webb spent an entire monologue segment, plus a nice little conversation with me, essentially paralleling Bonchie’s points. He even went so far as to name names, challenging Rand Paul, Nancy Pelosi, Mitt Romney and a few others to stop with the theatrics and introduce legislation to repeal the 1976 act. This is going to get traction. We just need to keep beating this drum. It’s not Donald Trump grabbing power. It’s the duly elected President of these United States, taking “care that the laws [passed by Congress] be faithfully executed.” That’s actually kind of refreshing after the conduct demonstrated by the previous occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
