After a Week of Fumbles We Need to Ask: How Are Democrats at All Enamored of a Dunce Like Gavin Newsom?!

For too long now, it seems we have had to endure the concept of California Gavin Newsom being any kind of major fixture in the Democratic Party. Yes, being the leader of his state alone will ensure he is in political conversations by default, but at some point, will it ever register with the Democrats and the press that this man is not a titan when it comes to leadership or policy – or even basic thinking and common sense?

Yes, he has a track record that shows more failures than an under-funded sprint car driver with a 10-year-old vehicle and hand-me-down Firestones, but there is more. Or, make that, less. This is a man possessed with more self-confidence than his resume supports, propped up as he is by both the media and the in-state bloodlines, ensuring his entrenched nature. This is a man who operates as if accountability is a foreign term and participation trophies are handed out with prize winnings eclipsing those of actual winners.

But we know what drives his thinking. The bigger question is why his party continues to attach to a man repeatedly exposed as a sham, displaying a slimy nature surpassed only by the viscous nature of his hair products. But less than that, he displays a mental acuity that is more than lacking; it is positively running counter to his own survival. Over the past week, we have seen Newsom deliver several examples of a man incapable of pragmatism or self-reflection, his desire to troll the Trump administration a source of equal servings of amazement and hilarity.

Let’s start with his attempt to slam Vice President JD Vance, who dared to take his family to a vacation at California’s Disneyland theme park. As videos of their visit leeched onto social media, Gavin felt he had the prime retort to expose the administration. Instead, he exposed his lack of cursory thought. Or, in truth, simplistic thought.

Now there is only one of two ways to interpret Gavin’s commentary here, neither of which is impressive. Either he is unaware of the distinction between legal and illegal immigrants, OR he is promoting the idea that Disneyland operates with the benefit of illegal labor. For his hit job to land, he is displaying abject ignorance of the issue or craven permissiveness. This is hardly a bold look. And it is only the start of his oblivious week.

In another attempt at condescension from the bottom rungs, he tried to suggest President Trump was somehow lax for attending a soccer match, instead of tending to some policy matter of Newsom’s preference at that very hour. The French Laundry denizen was found to once again be incapable of self-analysis.

During the week, there were news reports of California contending with a significant number of forest fires – with reports of up to 80,000 acres ablaze – the state’s leader was not exactly on the front lines with the response teams. He was not even on the West Coast. No, Governor Brylcreem was seen in South Carolina, glad-handing at the behest of the Democratic Party. This was an exploratory mission to test the waters of his bid for the party nomination in 2028. It is a nice dose of brazenness to campaign for party leadership while displaying leadership sloth at the same time. But the best has yet to be shown.

Possibly the biggest breaking news story from that same week involved a raid on a California farm to round up illegal immigrants. As the news broke, Newsom snapped into action, thinking that he was slamming Donald Trump over the activities displayed at this raid. To start, not only were there protestors on site trying to block ICE agents from executing their duties, there was something closer to an execution, as one individual was seen firing a gun at ICE agents. But this did not deter the governor, and he spouted off on the incident.

Then the entire enterprise began to collapse around Gavin. As he pointed out that children were fleeing the scene, people began to point something out to the governor: This was a farm, and children were on site in the fields. So not only was there illegal labor taking place, but illegal child labor was also in play. Then added to the mix was the fact that this was a pot farm, and then it was compounded by the issues of minors being present when one of the adults apprehended had a series of convictions, including kidnapping and child molestation.

So Newsom was the primary cause of the increased national attention to this event, and it blew back directly onto him. And if this stunted thinking was not bad enough for him, it managed to get worse. It was revealed there was a direct connection between Newsom and the owners, as they were not only campaign donors, but the governor helped push legislation that opened up the legal growing of marijuana for this farm to undertake.

This is a completely disqualifying display, as not only has the specter of political corruption and back-rubbing been exposed, but the entire connection may have come to light as a direct result of Gavin flipping on that very light.

How this man did not have the foresight to look into the matter first before broadcasting the raid details is baffling. Just the fact that he highlighted children being present at an agriculture raid should have inspired him to put the phone down. But overlooking that it was a pot farm, and the revelation that it was one operated by someone with direct connections to his office, is all you need to see this is not a man in possession of a deep brain pan.

The Democrats may be enamored with the public prowess of Gavin Newsom, but that only reveals how shallow their potential field of players must be for them to entertain a guy who seems incapable of entertaining the basic common sense needed to survive.
