Any Chance Katie Porter Had of Selling Herself As the Everywoman Just Evaporated

Katie Porter is, in my opinion, one of the more horrifying candidates to run within the Democrat Party in some time. She's clearly an angry woman with malicious intent, but she consistently puts on a mask of a smile and a reassurance that she gets you.

She reminds me of Dolores Umbridge from "Harry Potter," a woman who wields bureaucratic power maliciously, but always says words through a smile that only come off as threatening. Beneath the facade is pure cruelty, and her true self comes out during moments of frustration in the form of vicious outbursts.

As my colleague Nick Arama recently reported, Porter knows there's an issue with her image, and she tried to rebrand herself as some everywoman who knows what the average Californian is going through. She released an ad of her pumping gas, shopping at a grocery store—and she even hates Trump, just like you!

The most cringe part of the ad, however, was the ending, as Arama explains:

Oh, and she also wants you to know she makes fun of herself by putting in a reference to that infamous video above with the "get out of my f**king shot" in her ad. She even adds a laugh track — so we don't miss that it's supposed to be funny. Yeesh. Then, too, it's just the tired "Hate Trump and the rich" pitch that produces nothing that has ever helped anyone.

But it was during her recent debate that Porter said something that destroyed the point of this little rebrand attempt.

During the debate, Porter was asked if she wanted to deport undocumented farm workers, to which she replied:

"It's the job of the California governor to protect every single Californian....These are Californians. They contribute to our economy. They pay taxes. And they're one of the only ways that our state has been growing in recent years."

Interesting tell.

Porter effectively admitted that Californians aren't her concern. In fact, they're her complication.

People are leaving California at incredible rates. So much so that she clearly sees illegal immigration as her only chance at growing, or at the very least, maintaining a population.

Here's the rub. If she's importing illegals, she's not focusing on the needs of Californians. For starters, illegal immigrants are typically low on education, low-skilled workers who work for peanuts. They take jobs that Californians would take, and as such, the working-class Californian finds it harder to get a job.

As these Californians leave the state, a few things happen. For starters, any "growth" that occurs is negated, especially in Trump's America, where ICE is on the job. You lose actual Americans to a workforce that burdens the state way more than they benefit it, and may very well find themselves caught and deported, if they don't self-deport first.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, California's population has stalled significantly thanks to Trump's policies:

The California Department of Finance, which publishes the annual estimates, said that federal cuts to legal immigration hamstrung the state’s population growth. U.S. Census Bureau data released late last year also indicated that immigration restrictions made California the slowest-growing state in the country, which also saw an overall decrease in population growth. (The Department of Finance and the Census Bureau use different methodologies to reach their estimates, but rely on similar data sources).

President Donald Trump’s administration has slashed legal immigration pathways, including by revoking refugees’ protections and restricting employment-based programs. Those changes have helped cut net legal immigration to California — the number of people coming from a foreign country versus the number leaving — in half, from 248,000 in 2024 to 126,000 in 2025, according to the Department of Finance.

This only puts more pressure on low-skill workers to find jobs elsewhere because they can't find a job, nor bear the tax burden California puts on them. She calls these illegals "Californians," which further adds insult to injury, because she's effectively admitting that she's willing to look after them way more than she looks after actual Californians.

If she actually cared about the working class, she'd be shouting from the rooftops to get rid of the illegals, lower the tax burden on the state, kick many of the regulations to the curb, and let the market do what the market does best.

But she won't. She's another AWFL looking for power in a state losing it by leaps and bounds.

Honestly, I wish California would ditch all these leftists who are killing it, because I would love to see nothing more than people going back there and not overcrowding California plates.
