This Story of a Woman's Cancer Treatment Shows the Shocking but Unsurprising End of Socialized Healthcare

I can remember back when Barack Obama was trying to pass Obamacare, having my ears consistently assaulted and my intelligence constantly insulted by the left glorifying Canada's socialized healthcare.

No matter what facts you threw at them about the long wait times, the lack of quality in said care, or the inconvenient occurrence of world leaders coming to America to get life-saving surgeries and treatment while completely bypassing Canada, the left would not be convinced that the "free" healthcare in Canada wasn't free at all.

Nothing is ever free. Not having to pay cash up front means you paid for it somewhere else, and oftentimes it's either through insane taxes or bad healthcare. In many cases, that means no healthcare at all. If the system decides you're just not worth it, then your time on this Earth is coming to an end, and slowly, and likely painfully. You can ask the family of Alfie Evans, who the NIH in the UK effectively let suffer and die despite multiple countries reaching out to voluntarily treat the child to at least try to save his life, but was effectively imprisoned by the UK's healthcare system.

Can't have Evans even dying more comfortably outside the NIH's system. That'd be a bad look.

Since those days, the ugliness of Canada's socialist healthcare system has been highlighted again and again, and now we see how far that ugliness has gone, with Canada now effectively encouraging people to let doctors kill them. If you're willing to put up a fight and try to save your own life by doing all you can medically, then it seems Canada will do its best to push back and leave you with no other option.

I want you to watch this video. It's over two minutes long but well worth your time, because this man tells the story of his wife's troubles with the Canadian healthcare system.

To break it down, he is visibly angry as he talks about how his wife, who was suffering from Stage IV ovarian cancer, was effectively written off by the Canadian healthcare system. The only help they were willing to offer was that good ol', world-famous Canadian solution of "assisted dying" or, if you strip it of the polite verbiage, letting a doctor kill you.

But neither the husband nor the wife was willing to give up the fight and wanted to push forward. However, the system was not about to help them, and in fact, started working against them. Her oncologist never saw her person, and they mysteriously lost her paperwork. Yet, not once, not twice, but thrice did this husband take his wife to a hospital in Seattle, where they saved her life every time. She continued to go back to Canada to be with her family, but after it was clear that Canada was literally trying to kill her, a congresswoman in the U.S. helped her husband get a green card, and now the two live in Texas.

As he says, there is no "MAID" here, which is Canada's "Medical Assistance in Dying" program, and death isn't in our vocabulary. She's had two reoccurrences, but is now going into her third remission. According to the husband, she's doing so well, in fact, that she's "backsquatting 175 lbs. for five at the gym."

"Does that sound like someone who is ready to die, Canada?" he asks.

I think this is a story that perfectly encapsulates the result of socialized medicine.

In that kind of system, your humanity is effectively stripped away, and you are nothing but a number on a ledger. While the U.S. healthcare system is imperfect, expensive, and sometimes cold itself, it's leaps and bounds more caring and professional than anything you'd find outside it. Our ability to not just cure and treat diseases, but find new cures and treatments, thanks to our capitalist system, has made us the best place in the world to get treated.

But more than that, here we fight sickness and death. We don't just give up, even when things look bleak. In fact, that's when we fight the hardest.

I'll end by saying this. A government that "helps" its citizens by killing them isn't a government that sees you as human. At least here in the U.S., one party sees you as such, and thankfully, they're in charge right now. One that looks at you when you're down and sees you as "in the way" enough to suggest you let it kill you is ultimately one that poses a great threat to you.
