If I stood out in the middle of the street waving a flag that had my face on it and made people cheer for me just for being me, you'd say I was a narcissistic lunatic... and you'd be right.
This is pretty well understood by society, as no one likes a narcissist. They're not just annoying, they're often socially destructive and oftentimes emotionally abuse those around them. They take advantage of people's trust, then tear them down in an effort to make themselves feel superior. Moreover, when confronted, they shift the blame, find you a different target, and before you know it, you're caught in a web of someone else's pride and manipulation. People have to go to therapy for years to undo the damage narcissists do to their psyche, especially the children of narcissists.
The sad reality is that narcissism is a growing issue in modern society, and it takes various forms.
One, in particular, is Pride, and despite it being destructive, abusive, and grotesque, society still largely cheers it on.
That said, it's fascinating to see how far celebration of sexuality has come, and should be studied later by social scientists, as it's one of the largest tricks ever pulled on the Western world in terms of celebrating narcissism.
Because, ultimately, that's what Pride is. It's not a general celebration of a person or people, it's a celebration of a specific aspect of themselves, and it's an aspect that in any normal circumstance, would be considered perversion.
Look at it this way: If a bunch of straight people were to hold a parade on main street, dressed in highly inappropriate clothing as they danced, and simulated sexual intercourse, practiced fetishes, and handed out novelty items and sold merch that had suggestive wording and pictures on it... all while in complete view of children, society wouldn't have it.
If our schools encouraged kids to enter into relationships and had them hyper-focus on heterosexuality, we'd bang down the doors of the school to get them to stop, as they're too young for that kind of education and have no business being sexualized in any capacity.
Parents would be in an uproar over all of this, and we should be. Not that heterosexuality is bad in any regard, it's a basic function of human nature and important for the continuation of the species, but sexuality is a private affair, meant to be kept personal. We don't need to celebrate it, have parades thrown around it, or have it borderline worshiped in schools.
Yet, if it's homosexuality, or some kind of sexuality outside the norm, then suddenly we need to break out the confetti and cheer as men in drag strip in front of children, and men wearing next to nothing begin simulating sexual acts with each other and dancing provocatively?
That doesn't make any sense.
If the heterosexual parade had that same "look at me and celebrate my sexual preferences" feel to it, we'd contort our faces in disgust and label them narcissists, but when the perversion steps outside the norm, it's brave, noble, and gets corporate sponsors?
That's what Pride really is. It's the celebration of someone's abnormal choice of who they like to have sex with. There's not really anything special about it other than going against God's intended method of sexual intercourse, which for some is the whole point.
There are people learning how to steer asteroids who don't get parades at all, but I'm supposed to be reverent to a group of dudes who like to dress in leather and whip each other sensually? Why do you feel pride enough in that to demand people wave a literal flag that represents your sexual exploits?
It's because these people are narcissists, and just like every other narcissist, they want to be at the center of the world. They will use and abuse society then gaslight the same society they want worshiping them into believing society is abusive, and thus they should be treated with reverence. You're evil for being normal, they're good for being different, and you need to bend the knee and cheer as they walk by wearing nothing but leather thongs in front of your children. If you don't, you're a bigot.
Pride month is just a narcissism-fest dressed in bravery and victimhood.
