This weekend, the annual White House Correspondents Association Awards Dinner was held, and it managed to be even worse than anticipated. President of the WHCA, Eugene Daniels, gave a stilted speech that seemed oblivious of any and all problems in the press. Most comical was his saying, “We are not the enemies of the State,” after we saw four years of their obvious support of the Biden administration.
While some of the night was spent awarding marginally good reporting, much of that managed to fly in opposition to others in the ballroom reporting differently. Even as Alex Thompson, of Axios, was feted for daring to report on President Silveralert sliding mentally, he hedged in his lecture. It was a long night of self-praise, all while the industry continues to traffic in the same type of reporting that is leading to more audience flight and the general public holding little to no faith in the press.
Now, crack one open and savor some outmoded media malpractice and misinformation.
