Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian appeared from whatever hole he's hiding in on Saturday to "apologize" and offer his supposed benevolence to neighboring countries. Since the opening hours of Operation Epic Fury, the American and Israeli air campaign against the Islamic regime, Iran has launched over a thousand ballistic missiles, many at Arab nations like the UAE, Jordan, and Qatar.
That predictably backfired, with even Qatar, which has long been very friendly with Iran, denouncing the move and promising retribution. European nations, due to the risk to nationals (Dubai has a large British presence, for example), have also begun to offer defensive support. Still, for days on end, the missiles continue barrages continues. So what's suddenly changed the Iranian position?

PEZESHKIAN: I should apologize to the neighboring countries that were attacked by Iran, on my own behalf...
...The decision that was made in the interim leadership council, approved yesterday, has been delivered to the armed forces. From now on, they should not attack or fire missiles at them unless we are attacked from those countries.
Naturally, the online Iranian propaganda machine spun up immediately, with posts going viral claiming this move was because "important" American assets had already been destroyed in the area. The latest bout of confidence seems to stem from a single radar unit being hit by a drone in Jordan. The game is to suggest that any damage caused by Iran's thousands of missiles and drones, no matter how small in context, denotes victory for the Iranian regime. It's a pretty stupid standard for military action, but no one claimed these people were smart.
The level of cope I’m seeing over Iran’s announcement, which is simply a result of their capabilities being mostly destroyed, is hilarious.

So why is Iran suddenly using a softer tone after bombarding the Gulf states and beyond? I can assure you it's not because of any newfound sense of benevolence from a powerful country holding all the cards. Instead, it's an act of desperation. Iranian missile and drone launches have slowed to a trickle due to air strikes taking out the exposed launchers and caving in the entrances to their "missile cities." Any launch that does occur is immediately detected, meaning it's a one-time affair with American and Israeli jets constantly on station due to Iran's air defenses being neutralized.
In short, Iran can't continue to launch the missile barrages it once did, so this announcement is nothing more than a meaningless attempt at subversion. With its capabilities increasingly degraded and ineffective, the regime wants to appear like it's conceding something to the nations it attacked. One can only hope those nations aren't dumb enough to fall for this gambit.
How much longer Iran's tattered regime can hold on is an open question. What's not in doubt, though, is that they've been militarily decimated and dominated. Anyone pretending otherwise is lying, including all the slop accounts on social media claiming a certain victory is around the corner. Reality will continue to clash with that narrative for the foreseeable future.
