Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Hannah Dugan was arrested by federal marshals on Friday morning after she allegedly harbored an illegal alien in a courthouse. 

At the center of this is an illegal alien who was appearing before Dugan's court. ICE agents had set up shop outside, having provided notice that they were there to take the person into custody. That's when Dugan allegedly thwarted immigration officers by hiding the illegal alien. A probe was immediately opened by the FBI.

A Milwaukee County judge is under investigation over claims she shielded a defendant from immigration agents last week.

Judge Hannah Dugan has been on the Milwaukee County bench for nine years but is now herself under scrutiny after an incident involving a man wanted by federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents outside her courtroom Friday.

According to a law enforcement source, ICE agents were waiting outside Dugan's courtroom for a man making a court appearance. But Dugan is alleged to have shielded him to avoid his ICE detention.

Now, according to the U.S. Marshals Service in Washington, Dugan has been arrested and taken into custody. 

Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Hannah Dugan was arrested April 25 by federal authorities who are investigating whether she tried to help an undocumented immigrant avoid arrest after he appeared in her courtroom last week, officials confirmed.

Brady McCarron, spokesman for U.S. Marshals Service in Washington, D.C., confirmed Dugan was arrested at about 8 a.m. at the Milwaukee County Courthouse and is in federal custody. 

Dugan is one of several judges who have been accused of harboring illegal aliens over the last several years. Just days before her arrest, another former judge in New Mexico was also arrested for the alleged crime. Dugan appears to be the first active judge to face consequences, though. 

The moral of the story here is simple. Judges are not above the law. They do not have the right to use their power to break it, and if they step out of line, they deserve to be arrested and charged just like anyone else.
