An all-female "crew" went to space on Monday courtesy of Jeff Bezos and his "Blue Origin" rocket. Among them were singer Katy Perry and left-wing anchor Gayle King, and somehow, both women managed to return to earth even more insufferable than before.
The pretentiousness of this quote from Perry is off the charts.
"I think that it's not about me, it's not about singing my songs, it's about a collective energy in there," Perry said afterward. "It's about making space for future women, and taking up space and belonging, and it's about this wonderful world that we see right out there and appreciating it. This is all for the benefit of Earth."
Is that Perry speaking or Kamala Harris? Because I couldn't tell for a moment there. I've also been reliably informed that any unnecessary release of carbon emissions is an awful tragedy that must be avoided. Yet, here are six very wealthy women producing more than most people will in a year for what amounted to an 11-minute joy ride. Perry claims it was for the "benefit of the Earth," though.
How, exactly? I have no idea, but from what I can gather, she believes she did something incredible for women everywhere. Youth football coaching legend Three Year Letterman was more than happy to roast her for the following narcissistic hilarity.
Today, Katy Perry became the first human since Neal Armstrong and Buzz Peterson to set foot on another planet

PERRY: And it is surrender to the unknown. Trust, and this whole journey is not just about going to space. It's the training, it's the team, it's the whole thing. I couldn't recommend this experience more. This is like, up there with all the different tools I've learned in my life, from meditation to the Hoffman process, this is up there because what you're doing is you're like really finding the love for yourself because you've got to trust in yourself on this journey and then your feeling love when you come down, for sure. And you're feeling that strength, so I feel really connected to that strong, divine feminine right now.
What in the pagan nonsense is "that strong, divine feminine?" If we're just making up fake gods, at least come up with a better name. Regardless, for all this "I am woman, hear me roar" stuff, it should be noted that this was an automated amusement ride. None of these women were a "crew" in any actual sense, nor did they accomplish anything of value.

Gayle King would beg to differ, though. In perhaps the most pretentious commentary following their flight, she declared that joy-riding in space for a few minutes was a call for us all to be "better human beings."

It's hard to quantify that level of self-aggrandizing bluster, but let's just say it ranks fairly high. King has always been one of the most arrogant, self-absorbed "journalists" in the press, so it's no surprise she decided to use her experience to lecture everyone else about how they are terrible and must do better.
So there you have. The first "all-female" space "crew" has returned to earth. Yet, despite every attempt to make this into something more than it was, I'm struck by how tone-deaf it was. Don't get me wrong. I have no problem with space exploration and pushing the boundaries of technology, especially in the aerospace sector. But man, seeing a bunch of left-wing women pretend they are changing the world because they sat strapped into a capsule for a few minutes is a bit much. I'd guess normal people aren't nearly as amused.
