WATCH: Hung Cao Pummels Tim Kaine at Virginia Senatorial Debate

Hung Cao may be a long shot, given the electoral dynamics in Virginia. Still, he's putting his best foot forward to unseat incumbent Democrat senator Tim Kaine.

Facing off against Hillary Clinton's 2016 running mate, Cao faced the typical slanted questions any Republican can expect to be asked at these affairs. On immigration, he was pressed on whether he'd support a mass deportation of "undocumented immigrants."

MODERATOR: Mr. Cao, you've supported removing undocumented immigrants who have committed violent crimes. Do you support mass deportation of all undocumented immigrants? You have 60 seconds.

CAO: Immigration is very near and dear to my heart. When Vietnam fell, we had nowhere to go, and America brought us in, and my parents waited in line for seven years to get our citizenship. The last thing that my dad had hanging over his bed when he passed away two years ago was his naturalization certificate. I love this country so much that I wrote a blank check up to and including my life to defend it for 25 years in Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, and other parts of the world.

Here's my thing for anybody who wants to come here. Don't ask for the American dream if you're not willing to obey American laws and embrace American culture as I did. And so, that's the number one criteria coming into this country. If you come here illegally, then you need to leave, especially if you're a violent crime person. We just found out last week that there are 13,000 convicted murderers and 16,000 convicted rapists that came across under their watch. That's unacceptable. We need to protect Americans every single day, and that's what I did.

Thank you, Mr. Cao, but the question is do you support mass deportation of all [un]documented immigrants? That was the question asked. You have 30 seconds to respond.

If you came here illegally, you're basically screwing up the whole system. There's people that are waiting like my family for seven years for their naturalization papers. And so you can't jump the line. I mean, you go to Costco and you jump the line, what do you think is going to happen? You know, that's the thing, you can't come here and expect the American dream if you aren't willing to embrace American laws and embrace American culture. That's what I did.

I'm getting a little tired of this supposed gotcha question. For one, illegal immigrants are not "undocumented," given they are quite literally being documented at the border and released into the interior by the federal government as part of the Biden-Harris parole plan. Secondly, while we can argue all day about whether the 19,999,999th illegal immigrant should be deported, we have hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants in the country who have committed crimes other than crossing the border. How about we start there?

This is the same stupid game Democrats play with abortion. They want to try to make the issue about the margins when the simple, common sense thing is sitting in front of everyone. Before anyone argues about "exceptions" in abortion law, how about we talk about why the vast majority of abortions occur? With illegal immigration, before obsessing over "family separation" or people who have been here 30 years, how about we make the effort to deport the criminals and more recent illegal immigrants who are a massive drain on U.S. taxpayers?

Aside from handling some of the biased questions, Cao managed to get a few jabs in at Kaine throughout the night as well.

The joke about Asians and math was pretty funny and had the audience laughing. He's also correct about the current state of the country. For all the talk about caring about the little guy, Democrats sure have created an economy where the rich get richer while normal Americans can't afford to buy homes and struggle to pay for groceries due to interest rates and inflation.

Kaine is as inside the Beltway as it gets, while Cao served his country honorably for multiple decades, putting his life on the line. You'd hope that counts for something in a race like this. You'd hope.

Speaking of his military service, Cao also stayed honest when it came to the military using drag queens for recruitment. That happened back in mid-2023 and is just one example of the wokeness infesting the armed forces that has led to a crisis of manpower.

That's certainly one way to put it, and I don't know how it'll be received more broadly given how foreign military culture is to so many, but he's not wrong. Right now, the military seems to be more concerned with checking diversity boxes than putting the most ruthless, skilled fighting force on the battlefield. Anyone who responds to a drag queen as a recruiting tool is probably not the kind of person that should be recruited. Yet, here we are, with the appointed leadership of the military turning the various branches into running jokes.

Here's another moment Cao took a swing at Kaine.

I don't know whether Cao will win or not, but I know that it's worth a shot. If you live in Virginia, it's time to deliver another upset in the vein of Glenn Youngkin. Kaine is a worthless Democrat rubber stamp. The time for new leadership is now, and Cao has the skins on the wall proving he can handle the job.
