Working off the oft-used Obama era charge of never letting a crisis go to waste, blue state governors across the country are currently demanding bailouts of their states, citing the fight against the Wuhan virus in the process. For example, New York’s Andrew Cuomo is refusing to give tax breaks to doctors and nurses who answered his call for out of state help, citing a lack of funding. He’s also threatening to not re-open schools.

In reality, these states had blown their budgets out long before the first confirmed case of the virus hit their cities. Too much spending and unfunded liabilities were already taking them over the cliff, but now they want to pretend that the pandemic is the cause. They could easily re-prioritize and take care of the things that actually matter without receiving a bailout.

Instead, they are doing stuff like this.

Think about how insane and disgusting that is. California literally gives away money to illegal immigrants, including free healthcare. The state is also overrun with government bureaucrats and failing officials who don’t deserve their jobs. Yet, Newsom isn’t going to stop funding the ridiculous pension deals he’s signed, nor will spending money on public transportation boondoggles. Rather, he’s gonna send the police and firefighters home without pay.

Perhaps he hasn’t thought through who will enforce his continued, illogically draconian lock downs?

If a Republican did this, the media would go nuts, accusing them of taking hostages using those who deserve their jobs the most. But because this is a Democrat, you can guarantee the pressure is going to be put on for the GOP to cave in Washington. It’s just a matter of time before we start getting stories about how Trump is responsible for some public servant being laid off in Los Angeles.

And you know what? The GOP will probably cave.

Perhaps I’m just being cynical, but I think that’s exactly what will happen. We’ve already seen hints of compromise coming from not just Congress, but also the President himself. And while Trump has governed more conservatively than anyone could have imagined, his views on spending have basically been a repeat of the Obama years. If he feels like he can buy some goodwill here and take credit for saving these states, he’ll likely do it.

I hope I’m wrong. I hope the media nail Newsom to the wall for this gross display. I hope the GOP don’t provide relief funds for blue states that were already in debt. I hope the President doesn’t sign any legislation that leads to that end. But I’m not going to hold my breath.
