AOC Makes a New Claim of Racism, Leaves Everyone Confused

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez got on Instagram yesterday and the mere fact that she spoke publicly usually means she said something ridiculous. The fresh face of the Democratic party and shadow majority leader has a penchant for popping up on social media and making bizarre claims.

She didn’t disappoint and treated everyone to a rant about community gardens and…colonialism? I don’t know, you try to figure it out.

She goes on to talk about growing “culturally familiar” foods.

Ocasio-Cortez had filmed herself in a community garden after planting harvesting Swiss chard, spinach and collard greens, saying:  ‘What I love too is growing plants that are culturally familiar to the community. It’s so important.

‘A core component of the Green New Deal is having all of these projects make sense in a cultural context, and it’s an area that we get the most push back on because people say, “Why do you need to do that? That’s too hard.”

‘But when you really think about it, when someone says that it’s “too hard” to do a green space that grows yucca instead of, I don’t know, cauliflower or something – what you’re doing is you’re taking a colonial approach to environmentalism.

‘And that is why a lot of communities of color get resistant to certain environmentalist movements because they come with the colonial lens on them.’

I honestly had no idea that cauliflower was such a foreign plant to so many people. I mean, I knew it tasted like garbage, but I never thought of it as white people food. I guess you learn something new every day.

Exactly what “communities of color” are resistant to cauliflower or certain other “colonial” vegetables? Is this some kind of weird New Yorker thing?  Ironically, her call for yucca ignores the fact that it simply won’t grow in colder climates up north, so I guess the weather is racist too.

In all seriousness, the entire assertion that food would upset people with different cultural backgrounds really isn’t much of a thing in the United States. We are a melting pot of variety and it’s shown by our food options. Everyone pretty much eats everything. You can drive a mile in most towns and cities and find half a dozen different cultural varieties of food. I’ve personally never met someone who would be upset at the idea of (checks notes)…growing cauliflower.

The kind of inter-sectionalist tripe that AOC is propagating here is completely brain dead. It’s a faux intellectualism not actually based on anything. These people think up problems that don’t actually exist and apply victimization to people who aren’t being victimized. Then they jump on Instagram or Twitter to try to sound smart talking about it. In reality, they just look like idiots.

I can’t see a majority of the country buying into this grift and I think the inter-sectional coalition is going to collapse in on itself eventually. But maybe I’m wrong and this is what people want? We’ll find out I guess.
